Iconic rocker forced to cancel gig just hours before show due to ‘public health risk’

A huge rockstar has been forced to cancel his arena show due to a huge sewer blockage.

It’s not been a great start to 2025 for some rockers – Travis frontman Fran Healy had to be rushed to the hospital after a nasty injury and Kid Rock embarrassed himself on BBC News. Black Sabbath fans will be buzzing though as Ozzy, despite his Parkinson’s battle, will be performing for one last time.

Bryan Adams, famed for hits like Summer of ’69, was due to grace the stage at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia on Sunday (February 9). However, he had to drop out of the show at the last minute due to a “large” sewer blockage that was deemed a “potential public health risk”.

Perth’s water authorities said a “large blockage of fat, grease and rags” was causing several “wastewater overflows” at properties near the venue. The Water Corporation apologised for the “inconvenience” in a statement which read: “People should avoid contact with any pooled water in the area of Wellington Street, Perth, as it may be sewage following a major blockage on a sewer.

“Our crews are working to clear the large blockage of fat, grease and rags, which has caused several wastewater overflows at properties along Wellington Street. The Bryan Adams concert at RAC Arena was cancelled due to the risk of sewage backing up within the venue toilets, posing a potential public health risk.”

The water corporation said a “fatberg” was responsible for the disruption. Fatbergs – formed when fat, oil and grease solidify and get attached to items such as rags – cause serious blockages and hazards.

The concert promoter said the water issue was “unable to be fixed in time” before Bryan’s scheduled concert and that the cancellation was “bitterly disappointing”. They also said rescheduling the gig wasn’t possible but reassured fans they would be given a full refund.

“While every effort was made for the show to proceed, this matter was outside of the control of Bryan Adams, Frontier Touring and RAC Arena,” Frontier Touring added. “The issue, which impacted all of Wellington Street, meant that it was deemed unsafe for patrons to enter RAC Arena.”

The Grammy-winning singer took to social media to apologise to fans for the cancellation. “I’m really sorry we couldn’t make this happen tonight — I was so looking forward to seeing you all,” he said.

It’s a bitter blow to the fans who had queued up for hours for the show. Some asked if they would be reimbursed for the money they’d spent on things such as travel and accommodation.
