At the 97th Academy Awards, Anora emerged as the night’s big winner, taking home five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress for star Mikey Madison.
The Oscars returned on Sunday, March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The show honoured the films released in 2024 within 23 categories. Emilia Pérez went into the night leading the pack with 13 nominations while The Brutalist and Wicked followed with 10 each, but it was Anora that came out on top in the end.
The star-studded ceremony, hosted by Conan O’Brien, closed out an unforgettable award season, but the fashion on the red carpet really took centre stage. The night began with a performance from Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as they took the stage to sing the iconic Defying Gravity from Wicked. Viewers were also treated to a surprise performance from Queen Latifah.
Other winners included Adrian Brody as best actor for his role in The Brutalist, Zoe Saldana as best supporting actress for her role in Emilia Perez and Kieran Culkin as best supporting actor for his role in A Real Pain. Anora dominated the 97th Academy Awards, winning big with five golden statues, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Mikey Madison, beating out favourite Emilia Perez.
