Coronation Street legend David Platt’s life was hanging in the balance after his criminal pal Andy hit him with his car in shocking scenes, a plot to get Harvey Gaskell of his back
Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve seen another sign that ‘proves’ David Platt dies.
Jack P Shepherd has played David the ITV cobbles since 2000, and recently played a key part in his mum Gail’s emotional exit from the soap after 50 years. However, it seems the iconic Platt family member could be killed off and Jack seemingly confirmed this on This Morning this week.
David’s life was hanging in the balance on Wednesday night (March 5) after he orchestrated a car crash to try and get Harvey Gaskell off his back. He asked his criminal friend Andy to hit him with his car so that they’d both be free of Harvey.
However, a harrowing twist saw Daisy Midgeley – played by Charlotte Jordan – also get run over by the car. The episode ended with slow music played over a monologue by David as his family kept vigil by his bedside at the hospital – and now some think this is a sign David is dead.
Jack P Shepherd appeared on This Morning on Wednesday (March 5), where he seemingly confirmed David would be killed off – and last night’s scenes were his final appearance on the cobbles, but a lot of fans are not so convinced. “I think he thinks it’s the only way,” Jack said of the car crash plot.
“He’s got into a pickle owing money and Max is now in prison. He feels this is the only way to clear all the debt and his family will be better off without him.”
He seemed to confirm his exit when he said it’s “the end” for David. Discussing his two decades on Corrie, he said: “25 years, it’s a long time. I think it’s about 25 years next month. It would have been nice to meet that milestone.
“But sadly tonight’s the end. I’ve loved every minute. I can’t believe we’ve managed to keep it out for so long. I think everybody will enjoy it.” Host Ben Shephard then asked soap expert Sharon Marshall on what happens in the episode. She said she couldn’t reveal what happens and that it’s been kept under wraps – adding: “Has he just given us a massive bombshell?”
Jack doubled down on his comments, saying: “It’s all I’ve ever known. I’ve been playing this part now longer than I’ve been playing Jack Shepherd, which is mindblowing really – but I’ve loved my time here.
“Loved the character. It’s a really special episode. We did something similar when Kylie died. I don’t think the audience were expecting that until I came on This Morning until I came on the show and said she dies. I gave that one away as well.”
Fans of the soap are now convinced David does die – after noticing a sad ‘clue’ in the show. “They can’t be playing that slow music with a David monologue at the end and NOT kill him off this week. I want him to live obviously but…” one fan wrote.
A second added: “I swear if David dies, I’m out!! #Corrie.” A third penned: “If David Platt dies like this there is absolutely no justice in the world and then writers need sacking! David is a national treasure #Corrie.”
