The Inbetweeners stars tease huge reunion as they appear in BBC sketch

The Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas are back together, this time as Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher in Oasis: The Reunion: The Movie for Comic Relief

James Buckley and Joe Thomas have spoken about a potential Inbetweeners reunion.

The pair famously appeared together in their beloved E4 sitcom – James played foul-mouthed Jay Cartwright and Joe played his hopeless romantic pal Simon. They also starred together as double glazing salesmen Fitzpatrick and Lavender in BBC Two’s White Gold.

And now they’re back together once again, but this time they’re playing formerly feuding Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher in a sketch for Comic Relief. The pair have transformed into the Gallagher brothers, sporting comically-large eyebrows, a trademark Parka jacket and suitably moody facial expressions.

A promo pic of the project shows James and Joe recreating Liam and Noel’s black and white reunion photoshoot. James is clearly playing Liam, given he’s pictured in Liam’s parka with his hands in his pocket, and Joe will play older brother Noel.

The pair will be joined by stars such as Vernon Kay, Hugh Dennis and Roisin Conaty for the Red Nose Day sketch. But the elephant in the room is probably that much-discussed Inbetweeners reboot.

Speaking to LADbible, the pair joked that an Inbetweeners reunion would top that of Oasis, who will be filling stadiums like London’s Wembley, Manchester’s Heaton Park and Dublin’s Croke Park – and jetting off to Japan, America, South America, and Australia as part of their comeback tour.

James joked: “We’ll see how it goes, I suppose. Maybe we’ll use them, Oasis can be the canaries down the mine and if it works out well for them, then maybe we’ll do the proper reunion, the one that everyone actually wants.”

“We’ll need a bigger stadium than Wembley for our reunion,” quipped Joe. “I mean I really like everyone involved, and I’d always do more, but we don’t. It’s not in our power, we don’t write it so it’s just not something that’s in our hands, unfortunately.”

James and Joe’s Oasis parody is titled Oasis: The Reunion: The Movie, and will follow Liam and Noel’s rise to stardom from working class Manchester lads to global superstars. James said he is a “huge Oasis fan” and that playing Liam was “a dream come true”.

“I had such a fun time with Joe, making this sketch for Comic Relief, and was honoured to be asked to be a part of it,” he added. Joe said it was “both thrilling a nerve wracking” to do the sketch, adding: “I grew up watching Comic Relief and the big sketch was always a highlight of the night.”

The Inbetweeners ran from 2008 until 2010 and starred James and Joe alongside Simon Bird (Will McKenzie) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland). The series was turned into two films – one in 2011 and another in 2014.

Joe revealed that talks of a revival have “happened in various forms” – during a chat on James Gill’s Always Be Comedy podcast. He said: “All of us feel it would be nice to do. We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other.”

“And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it. I feel like we all still really like each other. We’ve all been able to go away and get various monkeys off our backs, in terms of things that we felt we needed to do other than The Inbetweeners to prove something to ourselves.”

Red Nose Day 2025 will be shown from 7pm on Friday 21 March on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
