Former child actor Haley Joel Osment, who is best known for his role in The Sixth Sense, has reportedly been arrested at the Mammoth Mountain resort in Mammoth Lakes, California
Haley Joel Osment has reportedly been arrested for public intoxication and possession.
The 37-year-old actor shot to fame as troubled child Cole Sear in The Sixth Sense (1999) alongside Bruce Willis. It earned him an Oscar nomination and he later starred in huge projects such as Steven Spielberg’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001).
He was reportedly arrested on April 8 at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort in Mammoth Lakes, California. According to court documents seen by TMZ, it came after police got a call around 2pm local time, and it was claimed the actor was intoxicated.
The outlet alleged Osment was joined by ski patrol members when he was arrested at the popular skiing spot. After arriving at the police station, he was booked for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.
The star was allegedly released shortly after being booked and is awaiting news of whether or not the court will pursue the case against him. It is up to the District Attorney for Mono County to decide whether or not to charge him.
It is unknown what substance Osment allegedly had on him before the arrest, but it’s said police took it to a lab to determine what it is.
In January, Osment lost his home in the devastating LA wildfires. The star recently opened up about losing the home that he’d lived in during the pandemic.
He told the Mentor Buffet podcast: “I had this very intense pandemic relationship that ended up going nowhere. Then things started picking up after the worst of the pandemic,” he explained on the podcast.
“Then there was the [SAG/WGA] strike, which I totally supported, but that put everything on hold for a very long time. And then we’ve had some political upheaval and this house that had been my refuge during the pandemic was completely destroyed in the Eaton Fire.”
He wrote on social media at the time: “My heart would be so full every time I drove home. It was such a special place. I loved living there.”
Osment’s first film role came in 1994, where he played Forrest Gump’s (Tom Hanks) son which won him a Young Artist Award. His career had begun when he took part in a Pizza Hut TV commercial.
He was just 11 years of age when he starred as psychic child Cole Sear alongside Willis in The Sixth Sense. Sear’s famous line “I see dead people” in the film has become an iconic phrase.
He won the Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor and became the second youngest actor to be nominated for an Oscar.
Osment’s most recent TV role came in Netflix hit Wednesday, based on the Addams Family character of the same name. He appeared in the second series of the show, which stars Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Gwendoline CHristie.
