Former child star ‘found dead on river bank’ as police launch investigation

Child actress Sophie Nyweide, who is best known for her roles in Mammoth and An Invisible Sign, was found dead on a riverbank in Vermont and police are now investigating her death

Former child actress Sophie Nyweide has sadly been “found dead on a river bank”.

The 24-year-old was known for her roles in ‘Mammoth’ and ‘An Invisible Sign’. She sadly died in Vermont on April 14, with the cause of her death unconfirmed.

Sophie’s mother told TMZ that her daughter, a “tiny woman”, might have been using drugs prior to her death. “She was with other people when she died,” Shelly told to the publication. “I didn’t know them.”

An obituary for the former child star was posted online and branded her a “beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend and new aunt”.

The tribute continues: “Creative, athletic and wise beyond her years, Sophie accomplished so much in the time she danced upon earth (literally – she danced as she moved!). She wanted to emulate her brother on the mountain so she started competing in snowboarding at the age of 5.”

The memorial post explained that she “seemed happiest on a movie set becoming someone else”.

Reports from The U.S. Sun indicate that Sophie’s body was discovered by a riverbank and the family is bracing for a long wait for autopsy results, which would potentially take up to two months.

Detectives haven’t dismissed the possibility of foul play. Sophie’s acting journey began with the 2006 film ‘Bella’, starring alongside Eduardo Verastegui, Tammy Blanchard and Manny Perez.

Her portrayal of Jackie Vidales in the 2009 Lukas Moodysson-directed ‘Mammoth’, which also starred Gael Garcia Bernal and Michelle Williams, shot her to fame. She further graced the screen as Lisa Venus in ‘An Invisible Sign’, sharing the limelight with Jessica Alba.

Her final appearances were in the 2014 film ‘Noah’ and an episode of the TV series Primetime: What Would You Do?
