Natalie Cassidy has said she didn’t spot her favourite scene when she watched her EastEnders exit, but isn’t sure whether it was cut or if it was just that she missed it

EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has said she thinks her “favourite” part was cut from her soap exit.

The actress recently waved goodbye to Walford after 32 years of playing Sonia on and off in the BBC soap. Sonia left in a speedboat while playing her beloved trumpet, as she headed off for a new adventure in Bali.

Natalie, 41, said while her Albert Square departure was “nice and joyful”, there was one special scene she was hoping to see that she now suspects was chopped from the final programme. Speaking on the Off The Telly podcast that she hosts with Joanna Page, she shared that the scene showed “a moment” with Sonia and Phil (Steve McFadden).

She said of her exit: “I felt quite emotional but do you know what? Maybe I’ve missed it where I wasn’t watching it properly, but I feel like they cut out the scene, which was my favourite scene.

“It was Sonia and Phil, and me and Phil just having a moment in the Square. I didn’t see it.”

“Oh my gosh do you think they cut that bit out?” asked Joanna. “Or you might have missed it? You might have missed it.”

“I don’t know,” admitted the star. “I might have to go back and have a look. I’d be really cross because it was a really nice scene!”

However, Natalie said she enjoyed the way her character left the soap. “I’ve had loads of DMs and messages and stuff just saying how people have shed a tear, but a happy tear,” she said.

“It was nice and joyful. It wasn’t sort of depressing, and she didn’t leave in a black cab, so it was just fun.”

Natalie joined EastEnders in 1993 when she was only 10 and has been a favourite with fans over the years. She took breaks from the Square in 2007 and 2011, but always returned to the soap.

However, in January she announced that she was off again. The actress told fans that she was “extremely sad” to be going and would “never forget” her Walford roots, but that she was also excited about moving on.

“After another 11 solid years back on the square, I have decided it’s time to move on to pastures new,” she said in a statement. “EastEnders is in my bones so I will never forget where I started my career and I will continue to love the show.”
