A documentary airing on Channel 5 explores the harrowing kidnap and murder plot against TV star Holly Willoughby, and the moment that police arrested the stalker responsible
A chilling Channel 5 documentary has exposed disturbing footage of the individual who plotted to kidnap and murder TV presenter Holly Willoughby.
Gavin Plumb, a security guard, had an unhealthy obsession with Holly, accumulating thousands of images of her, monitoring her every move, researching her home and security details, and even recruiting accomplices to help him carry out his twisted fantasies.
Their plan was to abduct Holly, take her to a secluded location where she would be subjected to a brutal sexual assault before being killed. The documentary showed the harrowing moment when police raided Plumb’s home to arrest him.
A mobile phone clip revealed the grim inventory found at Plumb’s residence, with a voice detailing the disturbing items: “Three lots of rope, metal cable ties, two sets of handcuffs…” as reported by Essex Live.
Philip Grindell, a former senior detective turned security consultant, commented in the documentary: “When the police go to arrest him, they’re looking for a man who is called Gavin Plumb.”
He emphasized the urgency of the situation: “It’s not a case of knocking on the door and asking him to open it. They forcibly enter the door with what in the police is often referred to as the big red hammer.
“The reason they’re breaking in is to prevent him from destroying any evidence, such as deleting files from his phone or computer, or from injuring himself.”
Captured on police bodycam, Plumb appears completely bewildered, exclaiming: “What is going on…what are you talking about?” A cop was caught on tape telling the suspect: “So, at the moment, you’re under arrest for conspiracy to kidnap.”
Plumb, clearly baffled, asked: “Who?” To which the officer replied: “Holly Willoughby, that is the allegation.”
Looking confused, Plumb pressed: “Ok…where has that come from?”.
Philip commented on the footage, saying: “His face tells a story then,” and noted the moment of arrest is when suspects try to suss out, “There’s this moment when you make that kind of arrest, they’re trying to figure out, ‘how much do you know? How much trouble am I actually in?'”.
The chilling footage continued with Plumb admitting to the coppers, “I’m not going to lie, she is a fantasy of mine. She is a fantasy of a lot of guys, isn’t she?”.
Philip pointed out: “So once he’s back at the police station, he makes no comment, which is entirely his right. It’s sound advice that a lawyer would give him, which is, say nothing until we know what they’ve got.”
In July 2024, 37 year old Gavin Plumb was convicted of plotting to kidnap, assault, and murder Holly Willoughby. Holly had been blissfully ignorant of Plumb’s dark fixation on her for nearly ten years.
When Holly was clued into the scheme just hours before a TV appearance, it turned her world upside down. She took a step back from her thriving career and shied away from the limelight as the cops built their case against Plumb.
