Lorraine Kelly has gone to hospital for surgery.

The legendary broadcaster, who has hosted her own ITV daytime show for years, has told fans she has been feeling unwell “for a little while” and is getting keyhole surgery. She took to Instagram with a video shot from her hospital bed and reassured fans that she’s going to be fine.

The 65-year-old, who recently gave her very honest take on Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show, told fans the surgery is “purely preventative”. She said in the clip: “Just wanted to let you know I’m having a wee procedure today.

“I’ve not been feeling all that well for a little while, so I had some scans and tests, and I have to have my ovaries and my tubes taken out. It’s purely preventative. It’s going to be with keyhole surgery, which is incredible.”

She added: “I’m being very well looked after, and I’ll obviously see you really soon, and I’m gonna be totally fine.” She thanked Dr Raafat and their staff at the hospital.

Lorraine’s famous pals and followers rushed to the comments to offer their support, with Adele Roberts writing: “Lots of love to you Lorraine! Get well soon xxx.” GMB host Susanna Reid: “Sending you all the love in the world”

Dr Amir Khan commented: “Wishing you a speedy recovery – you are the best!”. Vanessa Felts added: “Thinking of you and sending love. Let me know if you fancy a visit. Love V xx”

The surgery is known as a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, takes around one or two hours and requires several hours of recovery in hospital. According to the NHS, patients must stay off work for two to four weeks after the op – meaning Lorraine may be absent from her show.

Back in March, Lorraine sparked concern with her appearance while on Good Morning Britain. Viewers had noticed that the presenter seemed to have a puffy face, and some wondered if she may have been suffering an allergic reaction or something else.

However, it turns out that Lorraine had accidentally injured herself while trying to multitask at home. She told Loose Women’s Linda Robson that she had given herself a black eye while trying to do “too many things at one time really fast”.

She explained: “I had a massive basket of washing, couldn’t see, and I was going from the kitchen to the living room and couldn’t see.

“There was a wee step, and my slippers are too big also, and I fell over and fell onto a rhino! It’s a big giant wooden rhino, and I put my face on it, and I thought it would be fine, but I woke up this morning with the biggest shiner.”
