BBC admit to lapse in ‘usual high editorial standards’ after Prince Harry interview

The BBC has admitted to a lapse in their “usual high editorial standards” after their interview with Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex had a sit down with the broadcaster on May 2 post his Court of Appeal upset regarding his security detail while in the UK.

The interview made waves on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme the following day, where Harry’s take on the legal chaos was branded a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up”.

In an talk with close protection expert Richard Aitch, the BBC says the Duke’s “stitch-up” claims were “repeated”.

The Beeb also claimed that the show “should have given the view of Buckingham Palace”, and added “this was a lapse in our usual high editorial standards”.

Meanwhile, the Home Office chimed in with relief at the court siding with the Government, stating: “We are pleased that the court has found in favour of the Government’s position in this case.

“The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”

Following the unsuccessful legal challenge, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace commented: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”
