Coronation Street star dead as tributes flood in for beloved ITV actress

Coronation Street actress Barbara Ferris has died aged 85 as tributes flood in for star.

According to reports, Barbara died on May 23, 2025, after her family confirmed the news, and she is the sister of Call the Midwife actress Pamela Ferris. This follows another hardship for the ITV soap which has been hit with multiple cast losses in recent weeks..

Model Barbara played a barmaid in Coronation Street in 1961 but reportedly left the soap because she couldn’t understand the accents.

The TV star played the role of Nona Willis, who worked at the Rovers Return and lasted 10 episodes before deciding to leave.

The last film she starred in was Peter Medak’s The Krays in 1990. Eventually, the model retired to focus on raising her family, and go on adventures travelling around with her husband’s work. The couple had homes dotted around in Ireland, Zurich and London.

Heartbroken fans have taken to social media to share their tributes for Barbara. One wrote: “I’m sad Barbara Ferris has died. I met her several times in the company of Murray Melvin, with whom she had been friends with for fifty years and more, back to the days of the great Joan Littlewood,.”

A second added: “Some sad news RIP Barbara Ferris born 27 July 1939; died 23 May 2025.”

The screen star married film producer John Quested back in 1960 and is survived by her husband and their three children, Nicholas, Christopher and Catherine.
