The Simpsons writer's coronavirus handwashing advice has fans in stitches

The Simpsons are no stranger to predicting life events, with the animated show once appearing to predict that Donald Trump would become President and even convincing some fans that the cartoon predicted the deadly coronavirus .

Since the start of the outbreak, a number of people have taken to Twitter to share songs, rhymes, and film scenes lasting 20 seconds to recite while you wash your hands for the required time.

Now The Simpsons writer Bill Oakley has gone one step further and encouraged fans to recreate an iconic scene from the hit show.

With people being encouraged to wash their hands for 20 seconds to kill the coronavirus, Bill took to social media with a comical guide to hand washing.

To the delight of Simpsons fans, he referenced the iconic “Steamed Hams” scene from the 1996 episode “22 Short Films About Springfield”.

Sharing with his 46,200 followers, the 54-year-old tweeted “It had to be done” alongside graphic which was captioned: “Hand-washing technique with soap and water” listed on the graphic were 13 steps to follow to ensure you’re clean and free of the COVID-19 virus.

The scene comes from the classic episode Steamed Hams which sees Superintendent Chalmers visit Principal Seymour’s home.

During the clip, Seymour Skinner attempts to cook for the superintendent but later burns the food – causing him to question whether he should ditch his homemade food and instead attempt to pass off fast food from Krusty Burger as his own.

However, he is soon rumbled when the Superintendent enters the kitchen to find Seymour taking his apron off and attempting to climb out the window.

Fans instantly flooded his Twitter replies with one saying: “Wait, doesn’t everybody do this already? #SteamedHams”.

While a second went on to add: “Steamed palms”.

A third commented: “Well Oakley, you are an odd fellow.. but I must say: You wash a good hand.”

The NHS recommends that you sing Happy Birthday, twice, in order to wash your hands thoroughly enough to kill the COVID-19 virus.
