    Artist of the Week: Eminem

The Detroit rapper’s talent as a lyricist is strongly evident in many of his songs, and he even has a quick, clean and smooth delivery that many other rappers don’t.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Eminem truly has a big impact in the rap industry, and it’s not even surprising by this point considering how talented he is. His talent as a lyricist is strongly evident in many of his songs, and he even has a quick, clean and smooth delivery as well as a dexterity and flow that many other rappers don’t. Such example can be seen in his hit “Rap God” and “Godzilla”, the latter of which is included his latest album “Music to Be Murdered By”.
Speaking of “Music to Be Murdered By”, the album has reminded people once again how good he is in selling his music. Even though the record literally had no prior announcement nor a promotion, it could still rule the Billboard 200 with impressive number of sales. It helped Em become the first artist to have ten consecutive albums debut at No. 1 in the United States and one of the six artists to have released at least ten No. 1 albums.
His new album wasn’t the only thing that got a lot of people talking about him recently. More than a decade after he won Best Original Song for “Lose Yourself” at the Oscars, he finally performed the song at the annual event for the first time during the 2020 ceremony earlier this month. His set successfully surprised many people, prompting him to go trending on social media.
Not only that, but the surprise performance also spurred a big sales gain for “Lose Yourself”. Days after the performance, the “8 Mile” soundtrack sold 4,000 downloads in the United States while his entire catalog of music sold a combined 7,000 downloads. This, once again, proved how big Em is in the music industry in general and how much influence he brought in the game.

Drake Faces Lawsuit From Tour Stage Designer Over Unpaid Services

    Instagram

Design company Sila Sveta claims the ‘Hotline Bling’ rapper owes the company $108,000 for the creation of the 3D visual elements for his 2018 Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake is facing a $108,000 lawsuit from the designers of the hi-tech stage he used during his 2018 “Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour” over claims he never paid for the set-up.
According to design company Sila Sveta, they were hired by “Hotline Bling” rapper to create 3D visual elements for the stage to play behind and with Drake while he performed during the joint trek with Migos.
However, while they claim to have gone above and beyond to make sure it was perfect for the rapper, they have insisted they’ve not been paid for their services.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the company is owed $108,000, which amassed after Drake, “delayed the dates of the tour (requiring Sila Sveta staff to work of additional days)” and, “radically changed the configuration, size, and shape of the screens on which the video content was to be played four times”.
Company officials say they completed the work but after sending the invoice for the added amount of extra work done, Drake’s team refused to pay the $108,000.
They continued: “Our main task was to create a visual design for Drake’s tracks using all the sorts of 3D visuals. We worked on the project for three months, creating a huge, stage-sized scorpion, multi-coloured palm trees, an iPhone X home screen, the performer’s holographic projection, a basketball court, and photorealistic volumetric lava to share the stage with Drake.”
“The show used a lot of visual effects. Among them were lasers, CO2 effects, a flying Ferrari, and 200 flying drones that created volumetric figures above the artist.”
The company filed the papers in Los Angeles County Court, to which Drake has yet to respond.

    Instagram

Taking part in the efforts to raise funds for bush fire relief across the nation, the ‘Xanadu’ singer joins the line-up, which include John Farnham and Queen’s Brian May, at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Olivia Newton-John didn’t think she’d ever sing in public again before signing up for the Fire Fight Australia gig.
The “Xanadu” singer hit the stage at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Sunday (February 16) night to perform a duet with John Farnham at the benefit, staged to raise funds for bush fire relief across the nation.
Speaking to Australia’s The Daily Telegraph newspaper before taking the stage, the 71-year-old confessed that until the charity gig came along, she wasn’t planning to perform live again.
“I haven’t done a show in two years and I wasn’t planning on doing any more, but for this event, and to sing with John, it’s just going to be a phenomenal day,” she said.
“Music can uplift you, can take you to a place of joy and the concert will show those people in regional places that we care about you and are doing what we can to raise funds for recovery.”

Olivia and John were also joined onstage by Queen star Brian May, while Farnham welcomed “Australia’s Got Talent” star Mitch Tambo to the stage during his set for a performance of his big hit “You’re the Voice”. Tambo sang the track in his indigenous Gamilaraay language.

The recent bush fires have caused mass destruction, killing at least 27 people and millions of animals, and destroying more than 2,000 homes.

    WENN/Instar/Apega

Taking the stage at the basketball event, the ‘U.N.I.T.Y.’ rapper adds her salute to the late NBA legend when performing a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Love’s In Need of Love Today’.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Queen Latifah delivered a touching tribute to the late Kobe Bryant as she took the stage at the NBA (National Basketball Association) All-Star Weekend on Saturday, February 15 in Chicago, Illinois.
The former Los Angeles Lakers player was one of nine victims who lost their lives in a helicopter crash last month, alongside his teenage daughter Gianna.
While performing at the basketball event, 49-year-old Latifah gave a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s classic hit “Love’s In Need of Love Today”, and added some of her own words as a tribute to the star.
Her performance included the lines: “Give love a shot. When you do, say: ‘Kobe!’ Twenty-four hours, eight days a week, trophies!” The phrase “24 hours” makes reference to Kobe’s jersey number, 24.

Atlanta Hawks co-owner Grant Hill also gave a nod to Kobe and former NBA commission David Stern while introducing the hitmaker, telling the audience at United Center that, “Like Kobe Bryant, David believed the power of our game to change lives.”
“And while recognising the tremendous loss we feel in our hearts, we know they would want us to keep our heads up and continue to play on,” he continued. “So, tonight, as we celebrate the game we all love, we’ll reflect and rise together as one NBA family. Here to perform a song with that message in mind is my friend, the great Queen Latifah.”

    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Roddy Ricch doesn’t give his No. 1 spot on Billboard 200 to Lil Wayne for too long. The rapper’s debut album “Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial” is once again ruling the weekly chart with 79,000 equivalent album units in the week ending February 12, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. This marks the album’s fourth nonconsecutive week atop the chart.
Following behind the rising star’s record is Post Malone’s “Hollywood’s Bleeding” that climbs to No. 2 after racking up 52,000 units. Eminem’s “Music to Be Murdered By”, on the other hand, holds its third place position with 51,000 units. The No. 4 spot is occupied by newcomer, Green Day’s “Father of All…” Enhanced by merchandise/album bundles sales, the new album sold 48,000 units in its first week and became the band’s 11th top ten album.
Billie Eilish’s “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” ascends to No. 5 with 45,000 units, as Weezy’s “Funeral” moves down five spots to No. 6 with 44,000 units in its second week. Next week, it has been predicted that Justin Bieber will rule the Billboard 200 with his latest album “Changes”. After only two full days of activity, prognosticators suggest the effort could earn around 250,000 equivalent album units in the week ending February 20. Chaka Khan Heavily Mocked Over National Anthem Performance at NBA All-Star Game

Not a few compare the ‘Masked Singer’ former contestant’s performance at the annual event to Fergie’s infamous rendition of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ at the same event.
    Feb 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Being tapped as the National Anthem performer at a sports event is not an easy task, given the attention a singer gets from people all around the nation. If one fails to deliver a satisfying performance, they’ll most likely become the butt of the Internet joke, and that is what happening to Chaka Khan right now after her “The Star-Spangled Banner” rendition.
Singing the National Anthem at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago on Sunday, February 16, the songstress did her very best to wow both the audience and viewers at home. She even showed off her high notes throughout the performance, but people weren’t feeling her set at all and started to roast her on social media.
    [embedded content]
“Man who the hell let Chaka Khan sing this National Anthem lmao,” one person wrote. “Me listening to Chaka Khan sing that anthem,” another posted, along with a viral meme of Billie Eilish at the 2020 Academy Awards. Someone else joked, “Man somebody said Chaka Khan sounded like uncle Bobby from the proud family…I hate it here.”
Not a few brought up Fergie’s (Stacy Ferguson) infamous National Anthem performance at the same event and compared who performed worst. “Chaka Khan really tried to outdo Fergi for the worst all star game performance,” an individual said of “The Masked Singer” former contestant, as another echoed, “Everyone who thought Fergie couldn’t be outdone hearing Chaka Khan just sing the national anthem.”
Chaka Khan has yet to respond to the criticism.
Prior to the National Anthem performance, Jennifer Hudson blessed people’s ears with her emotional Kobe Bryant tribute performance. Looking gorgeous in a long-sleeved purple dress, the “American Idol” alum delivered an impeccable a capella version of “For All We Know” as images of the late NBA star and his late daughter Gianna played on a screen behind her.

Unlike Chaka, J. Hud was showered with praises following her set.
