Stephen Colbert Is Skeptical of Putin’s Best Wishes for Biden

“That is ominous,” Colbert said of Vladimir Putin’s wishing the president “good health” on Thursday. “But then again, when Putin says anything, it kind of sounds ominous.”Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. We’re all stuck at home at the moment, so here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now. From Putin, With LovePresident Vladimir V. Putin of Russia responded to President Biden’s comments this week about his being a killer by saying on Thursday that “it takes one to know one” and that he wished Biden “good health,” clarifying that it was without irony or insinuation.Stephen Colbert took glee in the trading of barbs, saying, “Someone dust off Dolph Lundgren and get him hunting for Red October because the Cold War is back on, baby, and this time we’re gonna waterboard Billy Joel until he tells us who started the fire.”“Putin is famous for being a killer. It’s kind of his thing, along with horses and nipples.” — STEPHEN COLBERT“So not going with a denial. Interesting.” — JAMES CORDEN“He’s killed so many people that in 2017, The Washington Post was able to publish a list of 10 critics of Vladimir Putin who died violently or in suspicious ways. It was an episode of Putin’s prank show, ‘Murdered.’”— STEPHEN COLBERT“But it is funny that Putin had to clarify that he is not joking when he wishes Biden good health. Instagram

The Olympic gold medalist, who starred on the show from the beginning until its 13th season, credits the long-running series for bringing her family ‘very close together.’

    Mar 19, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Caitlyn Jenner is set to help send “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” off. With the show coming to an end with the currently airing season 20, the former Olympic gold medalist has confirmed that she’s going to return to the show for one last time.

The 71-year-old revealed her return to “KUWTK” during an interview with ET’s Nischelle Turner. Admitting that she “enjoyed” her time on the show, she said, “Put it this way, I am in the final season. Over the 10 years I did the show, I really enjoyed doing the show.”

Reflecting on her time on the E! reality series, Caitlyn opened up, “I think I had probably some of the best conversations with my kids on camera.” She went on explaining, “A lot of times, you know, things happen and as a parent, you’re going, ‘Oh, I better talk to the kid about that,’ and you just don’t do it as quickly.”

The transgender right activist then credited the show for bringing her family close together. “You know, you kind of, it’s uncomfortable, but with the show, you have to talk to them about it, like, right now, and so I think it really brought the family much closer,” she confessed, before adding of what she’s learned from her interaction with her family on “KUWTK”, “One thing that I have learned in being involved with this family is let them speak for themselves.”

On the show’s end, Caitlyn said, “It was a great experience, and that’s the only thing, I see the end of the show is, it’s kind of sad.” She, however, remains optimistic about the future of her children, saying, “But all my kids, every one of them, even not just the ones on the show, but all my other children that I have. I couldn’t be more proud. They couldn’t be more successful. They’ve all worked very hard. Great work ethic, and they’re really good people, so that’s the most important thing.”

Caitlyn started joining “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” in 2007 along with Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. She left the show after 13 seasons and started her own series “I Am Cait”, but it only lasted for two seasons.

The Phoenix Insisted on Telling Family About 'The Masked Singer' Despite Producers' Advice Not to

    FOX

The newly-eliminated contestant who was unveiled as a transgender icon admits to going against the producers’ advice about keeping tight-lipped about her participation.

    Mar 19, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Caitlyn Jenner had no idea how much work was involved in “The Masked Singer” before she agreed to take part.

The reality star was unveiled on the U.S. TV talent show on Wednesday night (17Mar21) after performing as the Phoenix. And speaking to Entertainment Weekly after her elimination, Caitlyn admitted she had underestimated the amount of work she’d have to do ahead of filming.

“I really didn’t realise how difficult it was going to be at that time,” she said. “I thought, eh, I can do this. But it was a lot of work. But I would suggest any other celebrity out there who gets asked to do this, that they give it a shot. Once it was all over with, which was very quickly, it was a good experience to go through.”

While bosses urge contestants not to tell their nearest and dearest about their participation on the show, Caitlyn couldn’t resist letting her daughters Kendall and Kylie into the secret. But when she told them, her girls were bemused as to why she’d agreed to compete in the programme.

“I told both of them because we’re really close. And I said, ‘You can’t believe it, girls, this is what I’m doing.’ And when I told them I was doing The Masked Singer, they both said the exact same thing: Why are you doing that?!’ ” she laughed.

As for her reasons, Caitlyn said she told her daughters that she loves “a good challenge, number one, you know that. Number two, we’re living through this pandemic. I’ve got nothing else going on right now. They asked me to do this thing. Why not step out of the box, try something new?’ ”

Late Night Gets Serious About the Georgia Shootings

“Your murder speaks louder than your words,” Trevor Noah said of the man accused of killing eight people, most of them women of Asian descent.Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. We’re all stuck at home at the moment, so here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.‘We Saw It Coming’The hosts got serious on Wednesday, addressing the shootings in the Atlanta area that killed eight people, most of them women of Asian descent. Trevor Noah said angrily that America saw this coming.“And what’s been sad about the story is not just the loss of life, but all of the auxiliary things that have been happening around the story, you know?” Noah said. “Like one of the first things that’s been the most frustrating for me is seeing the shooter say, ‘Oh, it wasn’t racism; it was sex addiction.’ First of all, [expletive] you, man. You killed six Asian people. Specifically, you went there. If there is anyone who’s racist, it is a [expletive] who killed six Asian women. Your murder speaks louder than your words.”“And you know, in a way, what makes it even more painful is that we saw it coming. We see these things happening. People have been warning. People in the Asian community have been tweeting, saying: ‘Please, help us. We’re getting punched in the street. We’re getting slurs written on our doors. We’re getting people coming up to us to say, “Thanks for Covid; thanks for spoiling the world! Thanks!”’ We are seeing this happening, and while we’re fighting for it, there are many people who have been like, ‘Oh, stop being so woke, so dramatic. Kung flu, come on, ha ha ha, ha ha ha, ha ha ha! It’s just a joke.’ Yeah, it’s a joke that comes at one of the most tense times in human history.” — TREVOR NOAH“Why are people so invested in solving the symptoms instead of the cause? America does this time and time again. A country that wants to fight the symptoms and not the underlying conditions that cause those symptoms to take effect — racism, misogyny, gun violence, mental illness. And, honestly, this incident might have been all of those things combined, because it doesn’t have to be one thing on its own; America is a rich tapestry of mass-shooting motivations.” — TREVOR NOAHStephen Colbert tied the shootings to the larger issues about immigration that the United States continues to face.“The only answer that comes to mind is a simple but strangely difficult one these days, and that’s not to hate each other, to recognize our common humanity; to acknowledge that we’re a nation of immigrants. We might believe different things, we might not look the same, but we’re all Americans. We share a common belief that all men are created equal, and it is that belief itself that makes people want to come here.” — STEPHEN COLBERTAnd on “The Late Late Show,” James Corden said the killings were a consequence of hateful speech.“When you think about the casual racism that’s been pervasive over the past 12 months, then we can start to see the link between language and action. There are real consequences to repeatedly hearing hateful speech. People get hurt and people die. This mass murder is the product of a system that repeatedly leaves women of color and sex workers in a place where they are invisible. They are vulnerable and targeted. Identifying these actions as a hate crime isn’t just about semantics. And because this is a hate crime, it falls on all of us to address the hate.” — JAMES CORDENThe Punchiest Punchlines (Rotten Potatoes Edition)“Well, guys, I want to start off by wishing everyone a very happy St. Patrick’s Day. Yep, instead of Pfizer and Moderna, people just stayed home and did shots of Jameson.” — JIMMY FALLON“Today is March 17, which means it’s St. Patrick’s Day. It is the day Irish people say, ‘Kiss me, I’m Irish,’ and people say, ‘No, you’re not, Governor Cuomo, stop that.’” — TREVOR NOAH“It’s a big day for me, since I’m Irish. I’m a Colbert, I’m a Tuck, I’m a Fee, I’m a Conley, I’m a Tormie, I’m an O’Neill. In fact, I scored 100 percent on Rotten Potatoes.” — STEPHEN COLBERT“Because of the pandemic, St. Patrick’s Day is very different this year. For instance, here in New York, they couldn’t hold the normal parade. They just had a small one to keep the tradition technically alive. And to ensure no crowds would show up, organizers invited Bill de Blasio.” — STEPHEN COLBERT“Yep, all day we got to play a fun game: Drunk Co-worker or Bad Zoom Connection.” — JIMMY FALLON“St. Patrick’s Day during Covid is pretty strange. You’ve got to stay six feet apart, or as Irish dads call it, hugging.” — JIMMY FALLON“My question is, is it really St. Patrick’s Day if I can’t watch a guy on Fifth Avenue puke into a green hat at 8 a.m., you know? I mean, are we really celebrating when I can’t see a subway grate blow a kilt over a man’s head?” — JIMMY FALLONThe Bits Worth WatchingSamantha Bee opened “Full Frontal” with a look into the recent rise in violence against women. What We’re Excited About on Thursday NightJustin Bieber will talk to James Corden on Thursday’s “Late Late Show.”Also, Check This OutWilliam Singer, a central figure in the college admissions scandal that is the subject of “Operation Varsity Blues.”Netflix The new Netflix documentary “Operation Varsity Blues” delves into the headline-making 2019 college admissions bribery scandal. 'The Masked Singer': The Phoenix Revealed as Trailblazing Transgender Icon

    FOX

In the Group B premiere, the Phoenix makes debut along with Black Swan, Grandpa Monster, Chameleon and the Piglet, while Niecy Nash serves as a guest host.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“The Masked Singer” has unveiled another famous celebrity underneath an elaborate costume. The show returned with a new episode on Wednesday, March 17, which marked the Group B premiere of the current 5th season.

With Niecy Nash serving as the guest host, filling in for Nick Cannon who was recovering from COVID-19 at the time, the episode introduced five new contestants, Black Swan, Grandpa Monster, Chameleon, Phoenix and the Piglet.

Black Swan kicked off the performance with an edgy and passionate rendition of rock band Heart’s “Barracuda”. Using hints from the clue package, the panelists threw their guesses, with Ken Jeong predicting it’s Anya Taylor-Joy, Jenny McCarthy naming Camila Cabello and Nicole Scherzinger saying it’s Leona Lewis.

Grandpa Monster, who had a walker, followed it up with a youthful performance of Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5”. The panelists suspected that he wasn’t as old as the costume suggested, so they threw guesses which included names like Johnny Manziel, WWE star the Miz and Scott Disick.

Up next was Chameleon, who performed a cover of Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me”. From his tall stature and tech creds, the panelists guessed he was Dwight Howard, Diplo or “The Masked Singer” own Nick Cannon.

Phoenix then burned the stage with a performance of “Tik Tok” by Kesha (previously Ke$ha). The clue package led the panelists to suggest that it’s someone associated with the LGBTQ community, with the guesses thrown including Tim Gunn, Caitlyn Jenner, Jonathan Van Ness and RuPaul.

Last, but not least, the Piglet sang Dan + Shay’s “Speechless”. His vocal quality and clues about a romantic split made the panelists think he was Adam Lambert, Liam Hemsworth or Charlie Puth.

The first contestant to be unmasked revealed that night was Phoenix, after Niecy announced that she got the lowest votes. And Phoenix was revealed as Olympic gold medalist and trans right advocate Caitlyn Jenner, which meant Jenny was right.

Caitlyn poked fun at Ken for changing his initial guess from her to RuPaul, saying onstage, “Ken, you’ve always been an idiot. What are we gonna do with you?”

Speaking to ET, Caitlyn explained why she decided to join the show. “I’ve always tried to encourage my children to kind of take risks in life, and put yourself out there, and they’ve all done that,” the former reality star shared. “That’s how you grow as a person, is to try new things and experience them.”

National Geographic Reacts to 'Genius: Aretha' Boycott Call by Aretha Franklin's Son: It's A Tribute

    National Geographic

Kecalf Franklin has previously slammed the producers behind the eight-part series, dedicated to the late Queen of Soul, for pushing the project through without their consent.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
National Geographic is acknowledging complaint made by Aretha Franklin’s youngest son over “Genius: Aretha”. Days away from the premiere of the eight-part series dedicated to the late Queen of Soul, the TV network issued a statement in response to Kecalf Franklin’s online tirade that called for boycott.

“We received the message from the family, we hear them and acknowledge their concern for Ms. Franklin’s legacy,” a representative for the network told The Root. “We think we have a shared goal here – to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Aretha Franklin. We can tell you that everyone who worked on ‘Genius: Aretha’ approached telling her story with the intention to respect Ms. Franklin in every aspect of the series and in every decision we made.”

“The studio worked diligently to attain the endorsement of Aretha’s estate, which we are grateful to have. We worked with many people who knew Ms. Franklin – from Clive Davis to members of her family’s estate – to make sure we told her story in an honest and authentic way,” the rep further assured. “This series is called ‘Genius’ – it is a tribute to Aretha’s Genius – something we hope we can all celebrate. One of the comments from a guest attending our premiere last week was: ‘Aretha lived so much life… she needs 100 biopics!’ We can’t say it any better!”

On Monday, March 15, executive producer Suzan-Lori Parks issued similar statement. “As the showrunner of ‘Genius: Aretha,’ I can tell you that every single day (and twice on Sunday!) – through COVID, social unrest, and every other challenge we faced – our intention was to respect Ms. Franklin in every aspect of our show and in every decision we made,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright stressed.

      See also…

“As ‘The Queen,’ she is deserving of every single celebration of her life that the world can muster,” Suzan, who also serves as the series’ head writer, further pointed out. “And, on a personal note, as a Black American woman, I was taught at a very young age that soul is universal. Our series is all about soul, and we are honoring the life and soul of Aretha Franklin.”

Back in mid-February, Kecalf took aim at the producers of “Genius: Aretha” for pushing through the project without his family concent. In an all-caps post, he declared, “The Franklin family ‘is not’ in support of the (Aretha Franklin National Geographic) ‘Genius’ series!!! The deal was pushed through without our consent!!!”

Kecalf went on to beg “true fans” not to support the show. Nevertheless, he did note that his post “does not reflect our feelings toward any of the actors/actresses as we know they are just doing their jobs.”

“Genius: Aretha” will start airing on March 21. It is directed by Anthony Hemingway, who also serves as executive-producer along with Ron Howard and Brian Glazer. Cynthia Erivo is taking the lead role of Aretha. A third installment of the “Genius” series, it comes on the heels of its coverage on Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso.

Piers Morgan's Comment About Meghan's Suicidal Thoughts Becomes Most Complained TV Moment

    WENN

The controversial comment made by the former ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-host about Meghan Markle’s mental health struggles breaks complaint record in British TV history.

    Mar 18, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Piers Morgan’s TV attack on the Duke & Duchess of Sussex has become the most complained about moment in British television history.

Ofcom bosses have revealed they received over 57,100 complaints about Morgan’s remarks on “Good Morning Britain” after the outspoken newsman upset many viewers by questioning the Duchess’ claims she felt suicidal when the British media turned on her – something she discussed during a tell-all TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired last week (ends12Mar21).

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex was among those who filed an official complaint over Piers’ controversial remarks.

      See also…

In the TV sit down, Meghan recalled wanting to end her own life after facing relentless, and often racist, attacks in the U.K. press as she struggled to adjust to life as a royal, but claimed palace officials denied her request to seek treatment.

Morgan refused to apologise for his remarks and, after clashing with a colleague on-air, he subsequently quit his job at “Good Morning Britain”.

It has since emerged that a representative for Meghan has also written to chiefs at regulatory group Ofcom about the situation, expressing concerns about Morgan’s attitude towards mental health in general, and how it could impact others needing help.

Morgan cited freedom of speech as he defended himself following his TV exit, “I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
