Caroline, 40, was found in her London home by paramedics and police before being pronounced dead at the scene, the Metropolitan Police have revealed.
The Met have said officers were made aware of concerns for the welfare of the former Xtra Factor presenter at around 2.31pm on Saturday, February 15.
Caroline’s body was discovered after a pal staying with her had popped to the shops.
Her death came hours after the star had been told that the CPS were pressing ahead with a case of assault against the TV favourite.
Caroline stepped down from presenting the current Love Island show after she was alleged to have assaulted Lewis Burton 27, at her then flat in Islington, north London, in December.

A pal had been living with the TV star due to concerns of those close to her about her state of mind.
Tributes have poured in from celebrities, close friends and former Love Island stars on social media and television.
On Sunday night’s Dancing on Ice episode, presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby paid their respects to Caroline.
“We’d like to begin tonight’s show by taking a moment to remember Caroline Flack,” he said.
“In light of yesterday’s awful news we wanted to say that our hearts go out to her family and friends,’ he added, becoming tearful and struggling to speak.”
Holly Willoughby added: “Many of us here on the show knew Caroline as a friend and will all miss her enormously. As Caroline herself recently posted, in a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
