Coronation Street fans will be thrilled to hear that Paula Martin could be set for a dramatic new storyline, as actress Stirling Gallacher teased her character’s fate.
The solicitor was last seen during Yasmeen Nazir’s trial, making a special cameo appearance two years after she first joined the soap as Sophie Webster’s love interest.
Now, the 49-year-old has landed another major soap gig, starring as a new character named Ffion on Casualty.
However, Stirling suggested a major new Corrie storyline wasn’t out of the question, as she reflected on her role on the show in an interview with Inside Soap.
She said: “Well that’s the plan, to keep riding the wagon until the wheels fall off! Luckily, I can drive to Cardiff, where Casualty is filmed, and the Corrie studios in Manchester from my home in the Cotswolds.
“They’re very slick shows, and both roles are really different, so that makes it easy to dip in and out of each.”
As Paula most recently played a part in Yasmeen’s trial, could she get wrapped up in the sordid abuse storyline?
Yasmeen is currently awaiting trial for the attempted murder of her husband Geoff after she stabbed him in self-defence after months of torment.
Paula was spotted in the courtroom, but it is not clear whether she is representing Yasmeen or Geoff.
As one fan wondered: “Ok have I missed something… is Paula Yasmeen’s lawyer/barrister or is she Geoff’s?”
With an impressive reputation as a lawyer, if Paula were to represent Geoff, it could signal heartbreak for poor Yasmeen.
Meanwhile, soap fans can look forward to watching Stirling playing the exciting new role on BBC favourite Casualty each weekend.
The actress joined the cast of the legendary hospital drama last night, playing Jan Jenning’s wife Ffion.

Confirming her casting earlier this year, BBC boss Simon Harper said: “We’ve had Jan’s off-screen marriage up our sleeve for some time now and are really excited to explore it – not least with an actor as distinguished as Stirling, whom we are thrilled to welcome to the Casualty company, playing alongside the brilliant Di Botcher.
“Jan has a huge and terrifying story coming up in the next series where Ross comes into her life again – and given that Ross is pretty dodgy and Ffion is a police officer, it’s all going to get pretty turbulent!”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm
