Ellen DeGeneres discusses 'awful' accident which left pet dog with broken leg

Ellen DeGeneres has opened up about an “awful” accident, which occurred over the weekend, and left her beloved pooch with a broken leg.

The 62-year-old talk show host discussed the unfortunate event on Tuesday’s instalment of The Ellen DeGeneres Show as she continues to move on from recent claims about the alleged “toxic” work environment on-set.

Ellen, 62, admitted she had been feeling optimistic about returning to work and the start of a new season when one of her beloved pet’s got injured.

She told the virtual audience: “Over the weekend, our dog Wally, she’s a little over a year, so she’s a puppy. And she was running full-speed across the lawn.

“Our dog Kid happened to be in the way and she just trampled over Kid, which is illegal because the speed limit is 25 when there’s a kid nearby.”

After laughing at the joke, the presenter, who has four dogs, continued: “So Kid was screaming in pain and we knew his leg was broken.

“It was awful, awful, awful.”

She said that her and wife Portia de Rossi then had to rush Kid to a nearby pet hospital for urgent treatment.

Joking about where her dog’s recovery, Ellie said: “Kid has to wear that cast for 12 weeks, which is like 84 weeks my time.”

It comes months after the talk show host revealed her heartbreak over the loss of her beloved pet Wolf in July.

Ellen posted a snap of herself and wife Portia de Rossi planting a kiss on their pooch on their 2008 wedding day.

She wrote: “Last night we had to say goodbye to our dog Wolf. He brought us so much love and joy. I hope we did the same for him.”

The news about her pet’s accident came on the second day of Ellen’s show returning to screens, following a summer in which she faced allegations of workplace toxicity.

The US star has come under fire from former staff members over her apology monologue regarding “toxic” workplace claims.

Ellen addressed the allegations on Monday’s return to her talk show, saying that she “learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected”.

She vowed to ensure conditions improved on set and promised to work on her issues as an individual as well.

An internal investigation was conducted by WarnerMedia after a series complaints were filed about the environment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Three producers – Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman and Jonathan Norman – left the show as the investigation began.

Ellen has fronted The Ellen DeGeneres Show since 2003.

It was announced that the eighteenth season will premiere on September 21, 2020.
