Lorraine Kelly was left red-faced on her show today after savaging the Cats film – unaware the niece of her guest Bonnie Langford had a starring role.
The ITV regular hosted the final hour of GMB, welcoming Bonnie onto the show via video link to talk about the importance of saving the arts and live theatre.
The industry has been decimated by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – with all theatres closed until further notice and many of the freelance actors unable to qualify for Government help.
When she was a rising star, Bonnie was part of the original cast for Cats playing the role of Rumpleteaser at the Gillian Lynne Theatre (formerly New London Theatre ) in London in 1981.

After GMB played a short clip of the 2019 Cats film starring Rebel Wilson, Lorraine, 60, said of the live West End version: “It is a heck of a lot better than the film… crikey wasn’t it a bad one.”
Looking awkward, Bonnie replied: “Well I am biased as my niece was in it.”
As the GMB producers flashed up a picture of her niece in full feline costume, Bonnie added: “If it means that more people go and see the play then it’s fine by me.”

Trying to laugh off the toe-curling fail, Lorraine added: “Oh well i’m sure she was brilliant but the rest of it was not as good.”
The mammoth budget big screen adaption of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical boasted a stellar cast with stars such as Judi Dench, Jennifer Judson and Taylor Swift.
However, it was widely panned by critics and flopped at the box office with many film buffs savaging the questionable graphics.
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9am
