Winona Ryder claims Mel Gibson asked if she was a Jewish 'oven dodger' in 1995

Beetlejuice actress Winona Ryder alleged that actor Mel Gibson once asked her if she was a Jewish “oven dodger” at a 1995 party.

The Braveheart actor allegedly also made anti-semitic comments after he was detained by police officers for driving under the influence in 2006.

Winona, 48, talked about the alleged incident in an interview with The Sunday Times and reported by the NY Post.

Winona alleged: “We were at a crowded party with one of my good friends, and Mel Gibson was smoking a cigar.”

According to Winona, the topic of the Jewish faith came up in conversation and he allegedly asked her: “You’re not an oven dodger, are you?”

The term “oven dodger” is an apparent reference to the way in which Jewish prisoners were incinerated in Nazi death camps.

Winona claimed this wasn’t the only offensive comment Mel made at the party.

The 64-year-old actor allegedly said: “Oh, wait, am I gonna get AIDS?”

Winona, whose real name is Winona Laura Horowitz, also alleged that he tried to apologise for his inappropriate behaviour at a later date.

However, the actor’s spokesman called the allegations “100% untrue”.

The rep claimed to The Sun that Mel contacted Winona when the allegations were first reported in 2010 and “she refused to address them with him”.

This isn’t the first time the actor/director has been accused of making anti-semitic remarks.

In 2006, when he was stopped for a DUI in California, he allegedly told police officers: “Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”

Gibson later told Variety magazine that he doesn’t discriminate against anyone and he had a “nervous breakdown,” which caused him to say that.
