A Place on the Sun's Jean Johansson gobsmacked as buyer 'hates' property

A Place in the Sun got tense when Jean Johansson declared “hate is a strong word” after a guest blasted her property choice.

In Monday’s episode of the Channel 4 show (August 9) potential buyer Currina had a budget of £68,000 in Spain’s northern Costa Cálida.

She bought her best friend Tracey for support and the pair proved to be very vocal when they didn’t think a property was up to scratch.

Jean admitted it was becoming a huge challenge after the pair ripped into her second choice, a two-bedroom apartment in Lo Pagan with a private balcony.

Straight off, Currina said: “It’s not got much curb appeal has it?”

Jean said the sixth-floor apartment was “high spec” and well presented inside and asked them both to be open-minded and take a tour inside.

It was on the market for £78,500 and pushing the budget but it was in a more “bustling” location than the previous property.

While Currina said she liked the inside, Tracey said: “No, no I really hate it. I don’t like it at all.”

Jean said: “Hate is a strong word!”

Tracey doubled down and continued: “I could not live here at all. I couldn’t stay for a short period even. It’s soulless.”

Currina then admitted she wouldn’t buy it and said: “You get a feeling about somewhere when you walk in and I haven’t got this feeling, unfortunately, about this place.”

Although the property hunter admitted she liked the red shiny kitchen it was not enough to persuade her to put the property in the running.

Jean said: “This puts me under pressure for where I should take you next. No, that’s what I’m here for. I love a challenge.”

The TV host came up trumps with property number five, a two bedroom townhouse on the market for £80,000, and it seemed like the show would end on a happy note.

“It’s perfect!” gushed Currina when she saw the sunny outside area.

On the roof terrace, she added: “I think it’s gorgeous, beautiful. It’s pretty faultless really.”

Jean was excited about the “positive noises” so it’s understandable that she was completely shocked the next day when Currina wouldn’t make an offer on the house.

Her face dropped and she questioned why.

It was then Currina said she actually needed her partner Joe with her to make such a big choice and she planned to return to Spain with him.

Jean explained in the voiceover that the property was snapped up just two days later, so Currina and Joe missed out.
