Amanda Holden has paid tribute to the author Jill Murphy, who wrote the successful The Worst Witch series.
Jill tragically passed away at her family home in Cornwall this week after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Amanda shared snap of herself in a witch’s costume on-set for the TV adaptation of the book series.
She joined the cast of the show back in 2016, playing Miss Pentagle. Her character’s school was competing in the annual Spelling Bee against Cackle’s Academy.
Amanda posted the picture on her, @dontholdenback instagram with the caption: “#RIP Jill Murphy #worstwitch”
The actress could be seen donning a pink witch hat and matching cape, overlooking a patch of green grass.

She then uploaded a second picture of the script entitled: “The Worst Witch, Episode 9: Spelling Bee.”
Her pink manicured hands can be seen poking out from the bottom of the picture.
Jill’s son announced the news of her passing with a touching tribute to his mum, he penned: “I feel beyond lucky to have had a mum like mine and it’s impossible to summarise the ways her absence will be felt.
“She had a depth of character, a warmth and a life force like no other. I miss her so much already.”
Jill’s books became children’s classics after they were first published in 1974, the first of which sold out within two months of hitting shelves.
The Worst Witch follows the life of Mildred Hubble navigate her way through school life at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches.
The children’s favourite was commissioned into a series featuring a young The Theory of Everything star Felicity Jones and the late Sherlock star Una Stubbs.
In 2017 the author first opened up about her long battle with cancer.
She revealed that she had first battled with the disease 20 years ago when she discovered a lump.
Speaking at the time, Jill told the Mirror: “As anyone who has had this treatment know, if you’ve had it you get something called chemo brain.

“It’s almost as though your mind is only trying to process what you need, so you don’t remember things properly.
“You can’t even quite remember a sentence construction, but I don’t want to write anything that’s not good.”
