BBC Breakfast aired a major shake-up on Wednesday, as Dan Walker was conspicuously absent from the presenting line-up.
Strictly Come Dancing star Dan usually presents the morning programme from Monday to Wednesday with his now permanent co-host Sally Nugent, while Charlie tends to take over with Naga Munchetty the rest of the week.
However, on Wednesday Charlie was hosting the programme alongside Sally as they chatted about climate change, Covid-19 vaccines and other issues of the day.
Puzzled fans turned to Twitter to comment on the unusual arrangement, but were clearly happy to see Charlie on-screen, as one posted: “How uplifting to see Sally with Charlie this morning as I get up blearily with my coffee!”
Dan, meanwhile, hasn’t yet addressed his absence on social media – as his last post arrived on Tuesday evening alongside his Strictly pro partner Nadiya Bychkova.
Taking to Twitter, Dan posted: “Brilliant day filming at @ManUtd with @NadiyaBychkova for #Strictly.
“She has never been there before and was a little excited to get inside the dressing room. You’ll be able to see it this Saturday on the show.”
And it’s clear that the former Football Focus host is incredibly busy with rehearsals for the BBC dancing show – so it’s understandable he has to pack a lot into a week.
It comes after Dan revealed the sweet nickname awarded to him by his four-year-old niece, Rosa.
Presenting him with an adorable painting of a lobster in tribute to Dan’s Lobster Rock jive at the weekend, Rosa penned a note to her ‘Uncle Bubba’.
Sharing the painting, Dan explained: “The lobster jive went down very well with our 4-year-old niece, Rosa.
“She calls me ‘Uncle Bubba’ and came around today to drop off her painting.”
Meanwhile, Charlie found himself in hot water on BBC Breakfast this Wednesday, as he was warned “Stay awake!” by journalist Nina Warhurst.
She appeared on the show to discuss the current COP26 conference in Glasgow.
Jokily, Nina explained: “Today is all about banks and finance – stay awake! – because when it comes to battling climate change […] money really talks.”
But later, Nina couldn’t help but snap back at Charlie, as he wondered: “Can I ask a question? Net Zero Aligned Financial Centre – is that a thing? Is it a place or is it an idea?”
Nina explained: “No, the idea is that the UK will become the first Net Zero Aligned-“
Charlie couldn’t help but interject: “But is it like a unit? Is it people, are there people working there? Or is it just an idea of a principle?”
Nina then snapped: “If you listen, Charlie-“
And Charlie responded: “I’m trying! No, seriously, that’s why I’m asking.”
“Well, I’m explaining it now,” Nina said curtly.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
