BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty isn’t known for holding back, and Thursday was no exception as she took a rather “nasty snipe” at her co-presenter Jon Kay.
The duo were presenting the BBC morning programme from the red sofa and chatting about school nativity plays amid rising concerns over the new coronavirus variant.
Naga was forced to apologise to Jon for the comments, which left him understandably stung.
As the pair watched a school in London preparing to perform their nativity, Naga commented: “Remember those butterflies in your stomach when you’re getting ready to go on stage.”
And Jon chipped in: “Yeah, all the mums and dads waiting outside.”

“And you’ve got your one line!” Naga giggled.
Jon explained his part in his own school play, adding: “And you’re dressed as Humpty Dumpty!”
Naga quickly joked: “Some things never change.”
But the barbed comment drew fury from fans at home, as one fumed on Twitter: “Did you catch that really nasty snipe from Naga?

“(Jon Kay complained that as a child he only got the tiniest of parts in the School Nativity play – Naga instantly sneered ‘Some things never change’)”.
Naga finally apologised to Jon for the insensitive remark, telling him: “I am sorry, I didn’t mean it.”
But the conversation about nativities wasn’t over, as Naga later drew sports presenter business journalist Ben Thompson into the discussion.
Chatting about the Christmas plays, Naga said: “Something that’s going to warm your cockles.”

As a primary school rehearsed for their play, she told Jon: “Aww, you said you were Humpty Dumpty. There’s a zebra, a cow in there, all sorts of furry onesies in there. I’m loving this!”
But Jon was enjoying it even more, as he suggested: “Shall we just stay on this for the next three weeks?” – and Naga didn’t hesitate to shut him down.
“Hmm, might be a bit much,” she remarked.
She then asked Ben: “Ben, what were you in the nativity?”
“I was a shepherd,” he explained.
“There we go! We’ve got a shepherd, Humpty Dumpty, the back end of a donkey. We’re doing well so far!” Naga quipped.
