Beverley Callard says she was cut from Corrie anniversary over her mental health

Longstanding Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has claimed soap bosses gave her the chop from the show’s 50th anniversary because she suffered from mental health issues.

The actress has claimed she was given the elbow from the live episode after producers allegedly branded her “flaky” and “unreliable” following her diagnosis.

Only last year, the 56-year-old soap star, who is better known for her role as Liz McDonald, opened up about suffering from clinical depression.

In spite of her bravery in speaking out on a very personal subject, Bev now claims her admission was used against her when it came to the special episode.

Speaking to Melanie Blake on her popular YouTube series Girl Talk, Beverley said: “I had returned to work and I was filming virtually every scene every day because the McDonalds were involved in a storyline.

“Then a man said to me, you are not going to be involved in the 50th storyline of Coronation Street’s birthday, because you’ve had clinical depression you may be flaky and unreliable.”

During the discussion, Bev also claimed that she believed men were treated differently to women behind the scenes.

Continuing to vent, the TV star added: “Men are treated differently, completely differently.

“A man can tell someone off on set and say I am not accepting this, it will be fine.

“But if a woman does that then the whispers will go round and say that ‘so and so is a bit of a diva’.

“That’s so not true, I’ve heard it said about female co-stars of mine but they never say it about the men.”

Daily Star has contacted ITV for comment.

Beverley had spent 31 years on the cobbles in the role of Liz but recently confirmed she wouldn’t be making a comeback to shoot an exit for her character.

The on-screen icon previously admitted on an episode of Loose Women that she’d always aired in the past that she’d “never say never” when it came to reprising her role, however, she’s had a drastic change of heart now.

Bev confirmed to the panel and nation that this time the line has been drawn in the sand and she is “never” going back again.
