Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page has appeared to have spoken out after being reportedly passed over for a role because of his race.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, before he shot to fame as the handsome Duke of Hastings on Shonda Rhimes breakout show, Regé auditioned for the role of Superman’s grandfather on the Syfy show Krypton.
However, he was passed over for the role reportedly because an executive argued the part could not be played by a Black actor.
In a statement to THR, a representative for the executive, Geoffrey Johns, defended the casting decision by saying “Superman could not have a Black grandfather.”
Geoffrey said that he “believed fans expected the character to look like a young Henry Cavill,” who is white and plays Superman in the DC films.
The role went to white actor Cameron Cuffe and the show ran for two seasons before being cancelled in 2019.
Now, Regé appears to have spoken out around the rumours that race lost him the role.
He took to Twitter to admit: “Hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more tbh.”
He finished on a more positive note by then saying: “Still just doing my thing. Still we do the work. We still fly.”
Fans though rushed to the comments to heap praise on the actor.
One fan tweeted: “Hey Rege, these people don’t deserve your attention, you are an amazing actor, and an incredible person, we’re grateful for having you as our Simon, you will always be loved by us, go ahead and live your dreams, we’ll be cheering or you”
Another added: “Their loss not yours remember that. You’ve been so dedicated and hardworking all this time and I know all of those has a price in the end. This is only the beginning of your journey and I’m positive you’ll soar high.

“Every show that you have been on, you have brought the heat. You were a standout in Roots, For the People and now Bridgerton. Any executive that does not see your universal appeal is denying themselves the chance to have you enhance their project, both with talent & viewers,” penned a third.
