Claudia Winkleman's life – TV doppelganger, daughter fire horror and sex life confession

Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman has certainly lived an adventurous life after 30 years on camera.

The 49-year-old star is one of the most well-known faces on television, having presented Strictly since 2010, alongside co-host Tess Daly.

However, she previously revealed in a recent interview that she is often mistaken for another TV presenter, saying “I’ve signed autographs as Davina McCall. I never get recognised as me.”

She told The Guardian in September that, “I’m not complaining. I love being incognito.”

Though private about her personal life, she has also gotten candid in interviews about her relationship with film director husband, Kris Thykier, and about a devastating Halloween accident involving her daughter.

Born on January 15, 1972 in London, Claudia is the daughter of famous journalist Eve Pollard.

She graduated from Cambridge University with an MA in the History of Art, before embarking on a career as a tv presenter on programmes including I love the 1980s and Comic Relief does Fame Academy from 2005-2007.

From 2004, she also hosted Strictly: It takes two, before taking over hosting duties with Tess Daly on Strictly Come Dancing from 2010.

She stepped into the dancing shoes of TV legend Bruce Forsyth, who passed away in 2017.

Throughout her career, Claudia has also become as well known for her trademark haircut and fringe, as she has for her presenting roles.

She has also taken on a number of acting parts in programmes including 2013’s Gangsta Granny and BBC comedy W1A in 2017.

In her personal life, Claudia is married to film director Kris Thykier.

She married Kris in 2000 after meeting through friends, and in an interview with The Sun, shared some intimate details about her love life, saying, “I think we put way too much pressure on ourselves.

“I haven’t had sex with my husband for two days, let’s do it on the stairs.”

The couple have three children together, Matilda, Arthur and eldest son, Jake.

In 2014, Claudia’s daughter Matilda was hospitalised after her Halloween outfit caught fire, while she was out trick or treating.

It is reported that the costume’s synthetic material caught fire after it brushed against a cable.

Claudia recalled the incident on the 2015 programme Watchdog, telling Chris Hollins that as she was talking to someone, she heard her daughter scream mummy.

She then turned around to see that her daughter’s Halloween outfit was on fire, leaving her with severe injuries that required a number of operations.

Claudia described the moment as “life changing” during the interview, and thanked the doctors and nurses at the hospital who looked after her daughter.
