Coronation Street star teases epic Gary and Kelly showdown over Rick's murder

Coronation Street star Millie Gibson has revealed that she wants her character Kelly Neelan to be the person to expose Gary Windass (Mikey North) as a killer.

Loan shark Rick Neelan was murdered by Gary last year and Kelly has struggled to settle to life in Weatherfield since her dad’s disappearance.

She believes that her dad is living abroad somewhere, but little does she know that he’s buried not far from the cobbles.

A suspicious Kelly has quizzed Gary about Rick but is yet to find out the truth about the missing parent.

However, Millie, who has played since 2019, thinks it’s time that Gary got unmasked as Rick’s killer.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, the TV star said: “I think she definitely needs a close on that story because it’s kind of drifted away and she’s got herself muddled in another problems.

“She’s forgot the whole premise of why she’s turned up so she definitely needs to wrap that up and it would be good if she was the one who caught him.”

While Millie, 16, may want her Corrie alter-ego to expose Gary as her father’s killer, Kelly needs to get herself out of her own murder charge first.

The schoolgirl will be charged with murdering Seb Franklin following the recent horrendous hate crime attack.

She was instructed to slap Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) last week by gang leader Corey Brent (Maximus Evans).

Her actions led to Nina and her boyfriend Seb getting beaten up, and Seb later died due to his severe injuries.

Police officers believe Kelly is to blame for Seb’s death while the biggest instigator in the brutal assault, Corey, avoids being charged after Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) claims he was with her that night – despite Nina recalling that he was there.

In a preview for an upcoming episode, a police officer walks through the door as grieving mother Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) questions her on whether she has any news.

“Yes, I do,” the detective responds. “In light of new evidence, the police have charged a number of people.”

Probed on who, she responds: “Eli Higginson and Jason Downing have pleaded guilty to GBH for the attack on Nina and are now on remand.

“Kelly Neelan has also been charged with GBH for the assault on Nina – and for the murder of your son. Her bail hearing is today.”

Kevin questions: “What about Corey?”

“He’s not been charged yet, however this is an ongoing investigation and we will update you with all developments,” the officer replies.

As Abi began to tear up, she asks: “So what happened? Why did they do it?”

“One of the witness has indicated that the attack was triggered by Nina Lucas’ appearance,” the detective explains.

Will Kelly go to prison or will she be able to prove that she didn’t act alone on that fatal night?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
