Corrie fans were fuming at Curtis Delamere (Sam Retford) when he was arrested on his wedding day – and accused of stealing £100k of charity money.
Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) was ready to marry her beloved fiancé – but she was left gobsmacked as her wedding day took a nightmare turn on Monday night (December 20).
At first, Emma was worried that Curtis had left “jilted” her on her big day and left her at the altar – but he eventually turned up late and reassured her that it was still going ahead.
However, just as the pair prepared to tie the knot in the wedding room – the police burst in and told Curtis he was being arrested on suspicious of stealing a huge amount of charity money – £100k.
It came as Emma’s dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) rushed in to stop the wedding – after Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) told him that Curtis had lied about his terminal heart illness.
Curtis had originally told Emma that he was dying, but he had been hiding the fact that he is not actually ill with the fatal condition.
It turns out that he suffers from a mental health condition called Factitious disorder – that drives people to make up and sometimes believe fictional symptoms.
As Emma and Curtis’ wedding took a chaotic turn, fans were fuming at “liar” Curtis on Twitter – many of whom were begging Emma to dump the bloke.
One fan wrote: “Curtis is a lying, thieving scumbag!”
A second said: “Can’t stand lying Curtis. He’s going down and I hope Emma will jilt him at the altar”
A third commented: “Curtis really is a nasty lying piece of [sh**] and Emma made a huge mistake trusting him.”
A fourth added: “Emma still wants to get married to Curtis after everything he lied about. Dump him Emma you totally deserve so much better”
A fifth wondered if he was going to marry Emma then jet off to another country with the money.
They asked: “So it Curtis planning to marry Emma then run away to a different country by himself?”
Earlier in the episode, Curtis had been seen on the phone enquiring about flights to Tenerife.
Steve revealed to Amy that he had given Curtis his bank card to transfer the charity money into Oliver’s charity account – but the charity never received any such sum.
Later on, Curtis returned from the police station and told Emma that he was still under investigation.
He proceeded to claim that he didn’t steal the money, and that he had been trying to book their honeymoon in Fuerteventura.
A heartbroken Emma told him to leave her alone, and Steve reassured her that she’d made the right decision by walking away from him.
However, it’s not yet been confirmed as to whether or not Curtis actually stole the money.
The Coronation Street drama continues on ITV Wednesday at 7.30pm.
