Dan Walker and Naga Munchetty are set to take on their TV rivals at Good Morning Britain in a heated ‘grudge match’ – after new GMB host Martin Lewis challenged the presenters to a game of golf.
This comes as Money-Saving Expert Martin Lewis, 49, recently stood into Piers Morgan’s former ITV presenting role on GMB alongside Susanna Reid.
BBC Breakfast hosts Dan and Naga were quick to take up Martin on his cheeky sporting offer to settle the beef on the golfing green after Dan ribbed Martin about his first day in his new job.
Taking to Twitter, Dan quizzed the finance expert about his time on GMB in view of his 1.1 million followers who were ready to watch a verbal tennis match – it just so happens that they’ll get golf instead.
Martin had tweeted: “Thanks to (almost) all of you for your support on @gmb week. It’s a privilege to step out of my usual subject area. @susannareid100 is an incredibly generous & supportive co-presenter behind the scenes and the team have looked after me well making it so much easier.”
Dan then piped up and tested Martin on his early start, writing: “Glad you enjoyed it, Martin. How did your brain/body cope?”
Martin then replied by stirring up some old fashioned show rivalry between their ITV and BBC stations, and said: “I really enjoyed it. Thanks for asking. But… back knotted due to lack of sleep. It’s quite tough to do, then to go to work at MSE afterwards. You are made of sterner stuff than me.
“PS Ben [Shephard] & I should take you and Naga on at golf (handicaps in play) as a ‘grudge match’.”
It wasn’t long before Dan and Naga responded showing their competitive spirit, and Dan agreed: “Deal. Come on @TVNaga01… let’s get it sorted,” to which Naga rallied in support, penning: “Always up for a challenge”.
Golf-enthusiast Dan is no stranger to taking on his TV opponents on the green – and he even went toe-to-toe with his long-term GMB rival Piers Morgan during a game of golf last month.
The pair, who often hurl verbal digs at each other on Twitter, even posed for a smiley selfie after trading some banter on the green.
Naga is also a golf fanatic and she recently revealed the moment she ended breaking down in tears after a particularly testing round of golf.
She told sports presenter Mike Bushell: “I remember playing at a course with water and I think I sent five balls into the water. The air was obviously blue, but I cried.”
“I was in a competition, you had to score and there was no other way than getting it over,”
BBC Breakfast airs every day on BBC One at 6am.
