Demi Lovato has claimed she was sexually assaulted and left for dead on the night that she had a drug overdose.
She spoke candidly on her new YouTube documentary series Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, which sees her open up about being given heroin “laced with fentanyl” by the man who had “taken advantage” of her.
The 28-year-old bravely explained: “I didn’t just overdose. I was taken advantage of.”
Her pal Sirah Mitchell added: “He also ended up getting her really high and leaving her for dead.”
“When they found me, I was naked, blue. I was literally left for dead after he took advantage of me,” said the singer.
“When I woke up in the hospital, they asked if we had had consensual sex. There was one flash that I had of him on top of me. I saw that flash and I said yes.
“It wasn’t until a month after the overdose that I realised, ‘You weren’t in any state of mind to make a consensual decision.'”
Demi went on to say that the assault was not the first she had experienced.
“When I was a teenager, I was in a very similar situation. I lost my virginity in a rape,” she said.
“I was part of that Disney crowd that publicly said they were waiting until marriage. I didn’t have the romantic first time.
“That was not it for me – that sucked. Then I had to see this person all the time so I stopped eating and coped in other ways.”
She said she told adults what had happened to her but that her abuser “never got in trouble for it.”
“They never got taken out of the movie they were in. I always kept it quiet because I’ve always had something to say. I don’t know, I’m tired of opening my mouth,” she said.
“I called that person back a month later and tried to make it right by being in control. All it did was make me feel worse.

“Both times were textbook trauma re-enactments, and I really beat myself up for years which is why I had a really hard time coming to terms with the fact it was a rape when it happened,” she said.
She explained that she had decided to speak up “because everyone that that happens to should absolutely speak their voice if they can and feel comfortable doing so”.
In the raw documentary, Demi also detailed how close she came to death.
The singer was rushed to hospital in July 2018 when she almost died following a drug overdose.
“I had three strokes. I had a heart attack,” Demi revealed. “My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes. I crossed a line that I had never crossed.”
In the trailer for the series, the singer added: “I’ve had so much to say over the past two years wanting to set the record straight about what it was that happened.
“I’ve had a lot of lives. I’m like a cat, you know? I’m on my ninth life. I’m ready to get back to doing what I love, which is making music.”
