Piers Morgan says Britons should 'stand up for' the Queen in fiery online post

Piers Morgan has said Britons need to ‘stand up for’ the Queen while taking another swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The 55-year-old controversial journalist lost his job at Good Morning Britain last week after he refused to apologise for his constant criticism of the Duchess of Sussex.

Piers said he ‘didn’t believe a word’ that Meghan Markle said during her interview with Oprah Winfrey after she bravely opened up about feeling suicidal.

In the CBS special, Meghan also made claims of racism within the royal family as she said there were ‘concerns’ about ‘how dark’ her son Archie’s skin would be.

Piers wouldn’t accept Meghan’s claims and his controversial comments on GMB attracted 41,000 complaints to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom.

Since his departure, Morgan has been active on Twitter and has now said Britons should stand up for the Queen.

He took to Twitter to share a post with his 7.8million followers.

Alongside a picture of the Queen, Piers penned: “There’s a very deliberate & malicious campaign being perpetrated by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to smear, defame and trash Britain, our Monarchy & the Royal Family as a bunch of heartless racists.

“It’s disgusting. Time to stand up for our Queen.”

ITV announced on Tuesday evening that Piers has decided to leave his role after over five years as an anchor on the breakfast show.

The official statement read: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

After watching Meghan speak about her mental health battles during the Oprah interview, Piers said on GMB: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says.

“I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.”

An Ofcom spokesperson said at the time: “We have launched an investigation into Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain under our harm and offence rules.”

During this morning’s episode of GMB, Morgan stormed off the ITV set mid-show following a heated discussion with his co-star Alex Beresford.

Alex branded Piers’ behaviour “diabolical” and said the presenter had continued to “trash” Meghan Markle after she cut him off.

Piers then furiously stormed off set before returning to continue his dispute with the weatherman.
