Eamonn Holmes shares snap of granddaughter and shares name is in tribute to him

Eamonn Holmes was every inch the proud grandad, as he shared the first adorable pic of his new baby granddaughter.

He announced the happy news on Tuesday’s episode of This Morning, with Eamonn, 61, telling viewers that something had changed from the day before.

Wife Ruth, also 61, clapped happily and said “That you’re a grandad!”

Now Eamonn has happily posted a sweet snap of his family.

Under the beautiful black and white pic of his son Declan cradling granddaughter Emelia, he wrote: “My first born son Declan with his first born and my first Granchild Emelia.

“Welcome to The World Emelia. Just call me Papa.”

Declan shared the little girl’s full name on his Instagram, Emilia Elizabeth Holmes.

She was born weighing in at 7lbs and 6oz.

Viewers rushed to give their congratulations under the cute photo.

“Congratulations Papa Eamonn! What a beautiful name and how lucky she is to have you”, said one, with heart emojis.

“Aww wonderful news! My husband’s got this mug, you need one too Eamonn. Massive congratulations to you and Ruth x” next to a pic of a mug that says “Papa. The man. The myth. The legend.”

Another added: “Congratulations Eamonn and Ruth and Declan and Jenny, and well done Jenny! Emilia is such a pretty name for her, and by this photo she looks absolutely gorgeous!”

They continued: “Enjoy being Papa and lots of snuggles! I’m sure she’s going to wrap you around her little finger!”

Eamonn and Ruth had been discussing what name he would like to be called previously.

“What are you going to be? Gramps? Grandad?” asked Ruth, “Grumps we came up with, didn’t we? But he didn’t seem to keen on that one.”

Eamonn joked: “It surprises me because people come up to me and say ‘He’s too young to be a grandfather.’

“I’ve got people getting in touch with me about glamorous grandad competitions and all kinds of things like that, but my friend Bill has anointed himself Papa.”

It seems he liked the idea, having settled on that name in his emotional tweet.

Ruth agreed with the choice: “I like papa, it’s got a head of the family feel about it.”

Eamonn laughed: “It’s like the Pope, there’s an infallibility that goes with it. So I’d quite like my grandchildren to call me Papa.”

He also said the spelling of the name with an E was in tribute to him.
