Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick recently returned to the show as Vanessa Woodfield.
She first graced her way into the village s back in 2012 and Vanessa has been at the centre of some thrilling drama in the ITV soap.
From being tied up and held hostage by a murderer, having a son from a one-night stand, being stabbed by an arsonist and more recently being diagnosed with bowel cancer, fans of the long-running serial drama know that the character has gone through it all.
Vanessa went off-screen last year after she left the village to visit her mother, who had a bad fall.
However, in real life, actress Michelle had given birth to her first child with Emmerdale producer wife Kate Brooks and delayed returning back to the soap.
Michelle is back at work and Vanessa’s dramatic return was witnessed by fans of the ITV soap on Wednesday night.
Daily Star has taken a sneak peek into Michelle’s life away from the television cameras.
Heartbreaking split
Back in 2017, the Emmerdale star split from her wife Rosie Nicholl after less than two years of marriage.
The devastating break-up four years ago left Michelle feeling so upset that she could not talk about what had happened with music teacher Rosie and even kept her marriage split a secret from her co-stars.
Michelle and Rosie tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in April 2015 – however, they later revealed that the spark was no longer there as they started to drift apart.
Back in 2017, she told Daily Star: “Unfortunately, Rosie and I did split last year but are still good friends.
“It was one of those things where we did drift apart. It’s just really sad and one of those things that happens.”
The pair also shared two dogs together, Harley and Jess.
Co-star romance
Finding herself single again, Michelle went on to find love with Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks.
A year after Michelle revealed all about her heartbreaking marriage split, TV exec Kate was made series producer and love blossomed between the pair on the Emmerdale set.
The pair shared their relationship with the world in October 2018, on National Coming Out Day, by sharing a cute picture of them together on Instagram.
They got hitched in September last year after flying out to America, where they tied the knot in a low-key ceremony.
The pair now share a beautiful one-year-old son together.
Trolling abuse
Michelle was the unfortunate victim of some homophobic abuse online earlier this year.
After being tweeted horrific slurs on Twitter, the Emmerdale star shamed the disgusting troll after posting the vile comments for all to see.
She re-quoted the tweet and had said: “Come on, show us who you really are… I dare you!”.
It didn’t take long until Michelle was flooded with warm Twitter users commemorating her for her bravery.
She replied: “Overwhelmed by all your beautiful, supportive messages,” Michelle added, “I honestly don’t take it to heart; I just like to highlight it every so often.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm
