Heartbroken Piers Morgan reaches out to Kate Garraway after Finding Derek airs

Piers Morgan was left totally “heartbroken” for Kate Garraway after he’d watched Finding Derek this evening.

The former Good Morning Britain anchor was first to lead the way with messages of support and love as the ITV programme aired.

Taking to his Twitter feed, Piers first penned: “Love you @kategarraway,” alongside a picture of Nelson Mandela, that read: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

Devastating revelations were uncovered in the one-hour documentary that led to most of the nation taking to social media declaring that they were “in tears” after tuning in.

One gut-wrenching moment saw a struggling Derek finally able to find his voice as he told his wife he had no desire to live anymore.

An emotional Kate fought back abruptly, telling her husband: “I promised you I’d save you, you have to hang in there.”

It’s no wonder that even the Life Stories star Piers felt so heavy-hearted for his former co-star and took to his feed for a second time.

He wrote: “This is heart-breaking. #FindingDerek @kategarraway.”

Another peer who showed up trumps for his close pal was Ben Shephard, who also heaped his support on the digital platform.

The Tipping Point host said: “So proud of my friend @kategarraway she continues to surprise, delight, occasionally infuriate but always inspire me.

“Thinking of Kate, her family and anyone who is battling Covid or has lost someone close to them to the virus. #FindingDerek.”

The film focuses on Kate’s life and coping mechanisms after her husband Derek was tragically struck down with Covid-19 last year and still remains in hospital.

Kate’s husband was admitted to hospital last year and placed into an induced coma, with doctors claiming he was the “sickest person” they’d treated with the virus who had survived.

Although Derek is now free from coronavirus, he has suffered a number of major complications with many of his vital organs, including “two holes” in his heart.

While Derek’s recovery is pretty much still pending, he did show some remarkable signs of getting back on track in the one-hour special.

One clip saw Kate lovingly tell Derek “I’m so proud of you darling,” as he showed the first sign of emotion which proved to be a remarkable milestone for the former political lobbyist and his family.
