JLS promise sexier songs as they head out on reunion tour eight years after split

At the height of their success falling out of nightclubs went hand-in-hand with being the biggest boyband in the country.

Now as they enjoy a 28-date arena tour following their 2020 reunion, JLS, who came second on The X Factor in 2018, are looking forward to the gigs being a break from school and nursery runs.

Aston Merrygold, 33, says: “We’re going away for a holiday.

“We won’t be partying every night like we used to – we want to sleep!

“The tour bus is going to have everything we need like a PS5 and a bar.

“My kids haven’t been bothered until Grayson came to rehearsals for the first time.

“At first he was looking at his (Nintendo) Switch, then he slowly put it down and was saying: ‘Come on Daddy.’”

His 34-year-old bandmate JB Gill adds: “I still have the bottle of Jay-Z’s champagne, which he gave us after the BRITs when we won – but it’s empty now.”

The playful energy that made JLS so likeable is still there, even if they are thirtysomethings now.

After he ruffled feathers as Robin on The Masked Singer and showed off his fancy footwork on Strictly, fans are awaiting the return of Aston’s famous boyband back flips on the tour, that was delayed for more than a year due to the pandemic.

“Technically Marvin said there would be back flips on tour, so they’ll be his,” laughs Aston.

But he reassures fans, adding: “It’s going to be the JLS you know and love.

“After the year everyone’s had being stuck at home, we owe it to them.”

The gigs will be a celebration of all they’ve achieved, which includes two BRIT Awards for Breakthrough Act and British Single for Beat Again, which was also the fastest-selling single of 2009.

JLS sold more than six million records and shifted more than 1.4m live tickets.

Speaking about their high anticipated comeback single Eternal Love, written by Ed Sheeran, Marvin Humes, 36, said: “We’re very privileged that Ed wrote the song for us.

“We’re going for the Christmas No1 but there won’t be a single with sleigh bells or anything like that.”

Oritsé Williams, 34, adds: “We’re doing all the hits plus two new songs on the tour, which includes Eternal Love.

“The songs are going to get sexier. We’ve always sang love songs and that’s not about to change.”

Unlike some bands who get back together for a quick buck then cut and run, JLS want to follow Take That and go to the next level.

Oritsé says: “We’d love to play Glastonbury. I don’t think they’ve had a boyband on the main stage, so if you’re reading this Glasto hook us up.”

JLS are touring the UK now. Their new album 2.0 is out on December 3
