Line Of Duty star Martin Compton celebrated his 37th birthday in style over the weekend, after bar staff in Edinburgh threw him an unexpected surprise.
Martin who originally from Greenock, is currently working in the Scottish city and decided to go to the beer garden at Rose Street Garden to grab a couple of drinks with his pals.
The friendly bar staff made sure they made his day extra special as they presented the actor with a huge birthday sparkler along with placards spelling ‘MARTIN’ which was presented to him by five staff members.
Taking to Instagram, the bar posted the video of Martin receiving his gifts on their page. Loud cheering can be heard in the clip as the bar staff also gave the star cocktails in a box.
Trying his best to blow out his sparkler, Martin giggled: “I don’t know what to do with this!”
He is then seen thanking the staff members with an elbow bump.
Thanking everyone for the special surprise and the birthday wishes the LOD star took to Twitter and said: “Edinburgh you were always the best looking city but way the birthday love, Covid hugs, drinks sent and get it up ye ya always said with a wink you’re straight to the top of the cool list.”
The bar staff also claimed the BBC actor said: “I’m fas Greenock,” after receiving the alcoholic beverages.
Sharing the story on Twitter, one worker wrote: “Martin Compston was in my work the day and these girls googled his fave drink to send to him n google said it was a cosmopolitan and he was like ‘how would that be my drink i’m fae Greenock I canny even spell cosmopolitan’.”
The Scottish actor also made sure he gave a special mention to his co-star Vicky McClure who shares the same birthday as him.
Taking to Twitter again, the star wrote: “Massive thanks for all the lovely birthday msgs really appreciated!!!No rain shall stand in the way of a pub pint today. Also the biggest of birthday love to the greatest partner in all of telly land, have a blinder mate @Vicky_McClure xx.
Martin who plays Steve Arnott in BBC crime drama Line Of Duty has told fans the programme may not return for a seventh series and writer Jed Mercurio seems to also confirm these claims.
Speaking to Radio Times in March creator Jed explained: “We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series.”
“We would hope there could be. But we’re having to do our planning coming out of COVID, and a whole bunch of other things around the idea that these things aren’t guaranteed at all now.”
