As the new series of Love Island makes its return in June, Daily Star spoke exclusively to Anna Vakili, who appeared on the show in 2019, about her season and drama that didn’t make the final cut.
Speaking honestly about her time on the show, Anna revealed: “To be honest I think my season was quite PG you know.
“I actually think there was more drama on my season that didn’t get aired, rather than romping.”
She added: “There were definitely a few arguments that didn’t get aired. Even my scene with Jordan was more intense than they even showed.
“Our season was quite a lot of drama rather than romping.
“Our season was so much more fire, they weren’t expecting that, because there was quite a lot of opinionated people in there like me, Maura and Amber. We just said it how it was and caused drama.
She laughed: “Because if you hit on my man, I will definitely tell you about yourself.”
As well as having a demanding role as a social media influencer, Anna who began her career as a pharmacist, rolled up her sleeves and helped out in pharmacies across the UK as the coronavirus pandemic impacted the nation.
Though she was happy to get stuck in, the star admitted that “it was very strange” going back to her original job and she was “grateful” that she didn’t have to do it full time anymore.
Daily Star then asked the star what advice she would give to the new contestants entering this year’s version, the brunette babe said the new contestants need to not take it too seriously and remember the programme is “not real life”.
Anna said: “My honest advice is to try and enjoy it and not take it too seriously, honestly it’s not really real.
“When I went in there I thought it was very real life and I took everything to heart and I treated it like it was very real. But really when you think about it and when you deep it and when you come out you realise it was just a show.”
She added: “Yes it was eight weeks, but when you come out those people…they’re not you’re everything and your whole world.
“Just try and take it more relaxed and just fun, you know.”
The star also warned that contestants should be wary of how they could be perceived on screen.
“Be yourself, but also be aware that things look like they’re not. It’s an hour of your day that is edited into five minutes…Be careful that you don’t do anything that could be twisted and make you look a certain way. Be yourself but always be aware.”
Daily Star also asked Anna’s opinion on whether she thinks contestants are entering the show for love or are more interested in brand deals.
Anna admitted: “I think 90% of people go in there for celebrity status, but not just celebrity status but the success and opportunities that it will all bring afterwards.
“I think after watching and seeing what people are doing afterwards, you’ll probably think like ‘oh wow’, especially when they’re making it so big in the media.”
The reality star confessed that young adults may not want to go uni because of the opportunities and lifestyle that comes with being on the show as it’s a quick route to making money.
We asked Anna whether it is competitive to secure deals with bigger brands, Anna said: “It’s definitely very competitive and you have to be ready for an industry that you’ve never experienced, I think especially coming from a world where I was, it was very different for me to come to this.”
The 30-year-old also disclosed that even though the show ended in 2019, she is still being trolled online and said those that are going into this year’s series really need to be “thick-skinned”.
When asked if she would do it all again, Anna excited exclaimed “I would definitely, I wouldn’t change a bit.”
The new series of Love Island is expected to air on ITV2 in June.
