Eamonn missing after This Morning break as he struggles to walk with stick

Eamonn Holmes was missing from This Morning after the ITV show returned from an ad break as his chronic pain causes him to walk slower.

Wife Ruth Langsford explained to viewers that he had “nipped to the loo” but that his back pain means it “takes him longer to walk”.

As she spoke, she spotted him coming back into the studio, and the camera cut to a wide shot, allowing viewers to see Eamonn walking in with a stick.

They were just about to host a segment about viewers’ struggles with chronic pain, after Eamonn went to hospital for an MRI scan to try and get to the bottom of his own suffering.

The 61-year-old returned to the show today to host with Ruth, after he vowed to be back despite his ongoing struggles with chronic pain.

He has been documenting his issues the past couple of weeks and was seen walking with a stick on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway a few weeks ago during the Chums segment, in which he and Ruth made a cameo.

Last week, Eamonn took himself to hospital to get an MRI scan after his chronic pain left him struggling to sleep on a night.

On Monday’s episode of This Morning, he opened up about his difficult time, and explained he would be taking the opportunity to invite viewers to call in with their own struggles with chronic pain.

He told viewers: “About a month ago, I did something to my back, I don’t know what – it could be getting into a car, out of bed, whatever.

“I’ve got an MRI scan, but the trouble is everything closes for Easter. I haven’t got it analysed yet, but what I do know is I can’t sleep at night, the pain is worse at night.”

The ITV favourite continued: “The humbling this about this is, age isn’t a barrier, where you live isn’t a barrier, how much you earn isn’t a barrier – so many of you have this chronic pain issue from all sorts of sources.

“I’ve had this a month. I hope I’m not gonna have it much longer, but people have lived with it for their whole lives.”

He then suggested he might hire a nurse, as Ruth was like “Nurse Ratched” and slept through his struggles each night.

Eamonn told her: “It’s a gift that you have to be able to sleep, unconcerned.

“I would take a little stool to the side of the bed and mop your brow.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
