One Direction superstar Niall Horan is known for his charming personality as well as his impressive vocal ability but it appears that his sweet side is taking a back seat.
The Mullingar-born singer, 27, ventured out of his comfort zone last night and became a fully-fledged television presenter as he took over the Jimmy Kimmel Live programme in the States.
Niall, however, admits that the decision for him to host a comedy programme was “interesting”, noting he apparently has a “reading age of a six-year-old”.
During the episode that aired last night, Niall chatted to the Jonas Brothers as well as close friend Lizzo, who had him blushing at one point.
Niall, whose career was sent into overdrive following an appearance on The X Factor was mentored by non-other than X Factor boss, Simon Cowell, who created One Direction, featuring Niall alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and formerly Zayn Malik.
However, while Simon Cowell may have helped the group overtake The Beatles as the biggest boyband, Niall has since claimed that this came at a cost.
During a piece-to-camera on Jimmy Kimmel, the Irishman said: “The idea of me hosting a comedy show, is very interesting.
“I’m the pop star who has the reading age of a six-year-old and has zero business being in front of a teleprompter.”
He went on to say: “It’s true – as a small child, I was pulled out of school, for worldwide fame and fortune.”
“When a deal was made with a powerful demon, or as you mortals call him, Simon Cowell,” added Niall.
This isn’t the first time that the pair appear to have been at loggerheads, with Simon allegedly being left annoyed that Niall opted to venture away from Syco related companies during his solo career.
At the time of Niall’s debut solo single, This Town, being released, a source close to The X Factor told The Sun: “Niall hasn’t been invited to sing on any of the remaining live shows, despite having a big release.
“That’s not an oversight from the bookings team, it’s intentional.”
The source went on to claim: “Simon really thought the 1D boys would show loyalty after he mentored them on the show and made them the huge global success they are, instead they went behind his back.
“He’s not going to do them any favours. Niall also chose to do The Graham Norton Show, The X Factor doesn’t like to have acts that have been elsewhere.”
Rather than signing with Simon’s label, Syco, Niall opted to sign with Universal, with a source claiming Niall “knew” he wouldn’t appear on The X Factor due to his decision.
Daily Star has approached Simon Cowell’s representatives for comment.
