Piers Morgan prepares for Good Morning Britain comeback as ratings plummet

Piers Morgan has dropped a huge hint that he would be ready to return to Good Morning Britain after his abrupt departure back in March.

The show has welcomed a number of make guest hosts to star alongside Susanna Reid, including Adil Ray, Richard Madeley, and Bill Turnbull.

But it has been reported that viewership has steadily declined since Piers’ exit, with the ratings now being at a new low of 450,000 viewers.

Noting the Mail’s report into the new figures, Piers took to social media to smugly tease his potential return.

He wrote: “Jeez. Should I set my alarm for 4.45am again?”

His question was met with a mixed response, with many desperate for the controversial host to return, while others said they preferred the show without him.

One said: “I never thought I’d say this but the programme needs you back it’s so boring without you.”

Another swiped: “I mean a large % of the people that watched you during the pandemic are back at work. But sure, fluff that ego.”

But a third chipped in: “No one watches it piers because you ain’t on it. That is the reality. Love or hate you, you make great tv and I haven’t watched since you got fired.”

Meanwhile, Piers has recently said that show bosses have contacted him to ask him to return to the show, telling The Sun: “They reached out — there have been approaches. Never say never.

“I have no doubt I could take the ratings back to where I left them — but the doubt is, would anyone be allowed to do it that way again?”

Piers also said about his exit: “I was hired to give very strong, honestly held opinions, which I did. But in the end I was asked to apologise for a genuinely held opinion.”

He added: “I have had some quite random third-party feelers put out to see if I would consider a return to the show.”

Piers’ last show was on March 9, which saw him walk off the set after a furious clash with weather presenter Alex Beresford over his comments about Meghan Markle’s mental health.

GMB airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
