Antiques Roadshow baffles fans as guest refuses to sell John Lennon plaque worth £5k

Antiques Roadshow viewers were stunned when a man with John Lennon’s old door number said he wouldn’t be selling it – even thought it could be worth a whopping £16,000.

The man took the plaque – which said number 251 – when the show visited Liverpool, which is where The Beatles formed back in the 60s.

There were gasps from the crowd when he said it was the door number from the late star’s childhood home.

And people were further shocked when antiques expert Raj Bisram told him that the little number could fetch an incredible five to eight thousand pounds “easily” in a specialist memorabilia sale.

“But it could double that, it could double that, it really could double that!” Raj said.

The owner was told the door number could be worth a lot

The owner explained that his uncle had owned the property at some point after the Lennon family sold it, and that he was then “one of the few Beatles fans that got into the house for about 36 years”.

“When he was making changes to the gate, he gave me the old number plate,” he said.

Clearly excited, Raj said: “That’s an iconic item, you know, we are talking about one of the greatest bands in the world ever… this is the house number, it’s a great item.”

The piece was valued at up to £16,000

However, the man said he doubted he would ever sell the piece as he just liked having it in the family.

Viewers were stunned when the item was valued.

“Ooooof,” one posted on Twitter.

Referring to Lennon’s famous song, one quipped: “Imagine… £5k-£8k for John Lennon’s original gatepost house number, could even be double.”
