Chris Evans sure ‘something going on’ with Louise Minchin's BBC Breakfast exit

Radio host Chris Evans was sure something fishy was going on with Louise Minchin’s BBC Breakfast exit last year.

The Virgin Radio Breakfast host was quick to call the star out on her exit from the BBC morning show as they chatted about her activities since quitting the famous red sofa.

She had presented the programme for more than 20 years before she quit for good in September last year, before going on to appear on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! a few months later.

She has also been pursuing her dream of endurance sport, including an epic bike ride across Argentina.

And appearing on Chris’ show on Monday (March 7), she gave Chris a sneak peek of what she’d been up to.

Louise, 53, said: “I’ve just cycled across Argentina. That was eight days, so 100 miles a day on the bike; eight days of 100 miles a day.”

Louise has also started hosting Wattbike’s podcast Push Your Peak, and gave fans another insight into her cycling journey on social media.

But Chris wasn’t sure it was only a passion for the sport spurring her on, as he told her: “I’m not going to say you’re reborn, but there’s definitely something else going on.

“There’s a wider smile there than I’ve seen for a long time.”

Louise then admitted that the time since quitting Breakfast has gone “so quick”, elaborating: “It went particularly quickly over three weeks when I went to a castle in Wales!”

She said of being asked to star on I’m A Celeb: “They’ve asked me for years. I just thought, ‘I’ve always wanted to do it’.

“You’ve got to live life, haven’t you?”

She added: “I’m having such fun.”

It comes after Louise cited the early mornings as one of the reasons for quitting the BBC, telling The Mirror: “In December I’d taken three, four weeks off work because of an ankle operation and I had that period to realise that when I’m not getting up at 3:40am in the morning, I’m doing all sorts of things in the evening that I want to be doing – like just watching telly with my family, doing that kind of family stuff…”

She said she found the early hours “really hard” – and enjoys spending mornings with her family instead.

Initially explaining her next move, Louise said: “Anybody who watches [Breakfast] will be very aware my passion is endurance sport, and I will absolutely continue to do that.

“I’ve got lots of really exciting adventures planned. I’m trying to write a book about that as well.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
