Dan Walker hits out as David Beckham is accused of seeing Queen's coffin for 'exposure'

As thousands of people descend on Westminster Abbey to pay their respect to Queen Elizabeth II a few famous faces have been seen among the crowd.

This included ex-footballer David Beckham who was notably overcome with emotion when seeing the Queen’s coffin.

The 47-year-old had reportedly declined the opportunity to jump ahead in the miles-long queue opting to rather stand in line with others waiting for over 12 hours for his moment to say his goodbyes.

Former BBC Breakfast and Strictly Come Dancing star, Dan Walker praised the ex-England captain tweeting: “Fair play to David Beckham for joining the #queueforthequeue. 12 hours plus apparently to pay his respects.”

But some were less praising with one of Dan’s followers writing: “Had to show his face didn’t he, any chance of exposure.”

This was quickly rebuffed by Dan replying: “Have a word with yourself Chris.

“He’s been there since 2am this morning. If he wants headlines he pops to the chippy in his PJs.”

Dan was not alone in David’s defence with one person writing: “People here desperate to question his motives; says quite a lot about them that they can’t imagine he would just want to do the decent thing.”

Another had added: “Happy to see he queued – unlike others ( Phillip Schofield & Holly Willoughby to name two) who are obviously too important to queue!”

David had expressed his reasons for visiting Her Majesty’s coffin saying to ITV: “A special moment I’ll always remember is receiving my OBE.

“I took my grandparents with me, who were the ones who brought me up to be a huge Royalist and a fan of the royal family.

“To be around Her Majesty. We can all see the love that is being shown how special she was and the legacy that she leaves behind.

“It’s a sad day but it’s a day for us to remember the incredible legacy that she’s left.”
