Daniel Craig says he would have become a waiter if his acting career had flopped.
The James Bond star, 54, revealed he planned to swap the secret service for silver service if things didn’t work out.
He said: “I was trying to be an actor before drama school, when I left school at 16. So I worked at bars and restaurants and earned money.
“I tried to get by. I painted and decorated and did all these things.”
He continued: “When I went to drama school, I made a pact with myself, which was if I ever went back to waiting, I had to give it up.”
The star expressed that he wasn’t keen on being an actor who was known for working in a bar.
He added: “I did not want to be that actor waiting in a bar. I thought I would go and retrain and do whatever I’d have to do, or become a professional waiter.”
Daniel will take centre stage tomorrow night at London’s Royal Albert Hall when his 15-year tenure as 007 is celebrated during the Bafta Film Awards.
He is estimated to have made a £120million fortune over his acting career.
Talking openly about the money he’s accumulated over the years, the Bond star explained: “I like to think I am still in touch (with reality), but I am probably not.
“I am wealthy, have so many privileges and all these things. And that really does detach me from certain parts of real life.”
Despite his observation on money, Daniel said he still feels connected to young actors who are beginning their career in the film industry.
He said: “But I am really connected when I meet young actors and people in the industry, who are kicking off.
“I wanna grab them and hug them and go, ‘It’s going to be okay – keep going.’
“Not everybody gets success. Very few people get the success like I have.”
The news comes as The BAFTAs are preparing to celebrate the world of James Bond on Saturday night– but Daniel will not be in attendance.
Sources have claimed Daniel will give the ceremony a miss this year as he is getting ready for a stint on Broadway later this month.
