Speaking in her new book A Bit Of Me: From Basildon to Broadway and Back the popular TV host has admitted that when she was approached to appear in the iconic glamour model slot she knew she had to make a deal that would suit her.

Denise, 47, recalled the moment she was approached after becoming a household name in the UK thanks to the success of her The Big Breakfast presenting role alongside co-host Johnny Vaughan.

The Channel 4 show propelled her to the dizzy heights of fame and gave her an incredible fan base amongst viewers everywhere.

She wrote: “During my heyday on The Big Breakfast The Sun newspaper asked me if I’d be up for modelling on Page 3.

“On the one hand, I was up for it, but on the other I wasn’t getting my boobs out for all and sundry to gawp at over their Rice Krispies, so I had conditions.

“Consequently I ended up being the first non-topless Page 3 girl.”

Denise then went on to explain how that was only the beginning for her as the offers for sexy photoshoots in some of the best selling men’s magazines out there came flooding in thanks to her on-screen success.

She continued: “After that there was interest from some of the popular men’s magazines, requesting my presence on their glossy pages in a few photo shoots.

“Lads’ mags, as they were known, were a big thing at the time: FHM, Loaded, Maxim, Esquire. I ended up doing many photoshoots for these magazines, some shot by iconic British photographers like Rankin and the late Bob Carlos Clarke.”

The Cabaret star also confessed that being thought of as sexy was something new for her, so she tried not to take it too seriously.

She added: “I’d always felt slightly uncomfortable with the idea of being seductive or sexy, but suddenly people were thinking of me in that way. For me it was all a bit of a laugh.”
