Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery is engaged to Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brother Jasper.
It comes six years after the tragic death of her previous fiancé John Dineen, who passed away from a rare form of cancer.
Michelle and Jasper announced their exciting engagement news in the Times Newspaper on Thursday (January 20).
The bulletin read: “The engagement is announced between Jasper, son of Michael Waller-Bridge of King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and Teresa Waller-Bridge of Battersea, London, and Michelle, younger daughter of Michael and Lorraine Dockery of Gidea Park, Essex.”
The smitten pair met through mutual friends in 2019, and they made their first public appearance as a couple at Rome Film Festival.
Michelle, 40, is famed for her role as Lady Mary Crawley on Downton Abbey, the ITV’s hit period drama which starred the likes of acting legend Maggie Smith.
35-year-old Jasper also works in showbiz as he’s a film and TV producer who previously worked for ex-One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.
Jasper’s sister Phoebe is the creator of the hit Netflix comedy Fleabag.
Michelle was previously engaged to John Dineen, a public relations executive from Ireland.
However, he sadly passed away from cancer in 2015 at the young age of 34.
The actress opened up about losing her ex partner in 2017.
She said: “I don’t have the vocabulary to describe what it felt like.
“And what it still feels like. It is … sorry, give me a minute. I’ve never been more committed to anything in my life than to him.
“So at the time everything just shut down. Work, everything. Work didn’t matter. You suddenly become an [oncological] expert. This stuff becomes your world, and that of course was my priority.”
At his Cork eulogy in 2015, Michelle described John as “my friend, my king, my hero, my everything”.
She added: “I was honoured to know John. To love him and be loved by him.”
Michelle is set to reprise her role as Lady Mary in the second Downton Abbey film, which will be released on 18 March.
