EastEnders fans were left emotional as bosses dedicated the latest episode of the soap to veteran actor Leonard Fenton following his death at the age of 95.
Viewers saw Thursday’s episode end with a moving tribute to the late actor, when a message appeared on screen reading: “In memory of Leonard Fenton. 1926 – 2022.”
Leonard was best known for his role as Dr Legg on EastEnders and for his close friendship with Dot Cotton.
He appeared as a regular character between 1985 and 1989, but continued to appear in a recurring role until 1997.
He was officially retired in 1999, though he has made cameos since this time in 2000, 2004 and 2007.
He returned for a storyline from 18 October 2018 and he departed on 15 February 2019 when his character died of pancreatic cancer.
Taking to Twitter, emotional fans posted their praise for moving tribute.
“Aww came up at the end of #eastenders that Leonard Fenton had died… Dr Legg …”
While another gushed: “Sad to hear the lovely Leonard Fenton has passed away. He’ll always be remembered as Dr Legg from #EastEnders “
Leonard passed away last week, with his “heartbroken” family releasing a statement, which read: “The family of the actor Leonard Fenton are heartbroken to announce his death at the age of 95 on Saturday January 29.
“His passion for painting and singing pre-dated his acting career and was equally as important to him.
He will be missed beyond words by his family. We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to be with him as his health worsened towards the end – a privilege denied to so many during these tough times.”
Prior to the tribute, fans watched tense scenes as Suki and Eve were arrested after a chaotic showdown.
When Eve told Suki that she’s been in contact with Ash, Suki laid into her for turning her daughter against her, leading to a furious row.
As the police are called and both of them are forced into the back of a police van to calm down, the two were seen opening up to each other with fans predicting the pair may spark a secret romance.
“For a moment, I really thought Eve & Suki were gonna kiss in that van #EastEnders,” said one viewer, and another replied: “That’s coming. Suki and Eve might eventually become a thing?”
A third commented: “Eve and Suki is going to happen isn’t it?”
While a fourth agreed: “Of course Eve and Suki are the typical couple that hate each other but soon become lovers.”
