Emmerdale fans were left ecstatic on Thursday night, as serial killer Meena Jutla’s crimes were finally exposed to her fellow villagers.
In a shock twist, local GP Liam turned up at the barn where Meena was holding her hostages and knocked her out with a plank of wood after growing suspicious about her behaviour.
He even heard Meena say: “Oh, for pity’s sake – why aren’t you dead yet?!” to Vinny before kicking him.
When he succeeded in dragging Vinny and Manpreet out of the barn, they clued him in on the murders – including his daughter Leanna’s death.
Thrilled fans soon turned to Twitter as Vinny called for the police, with one raving: “Liam finally knows the truth about Meena murdering Leanna!”
“YES!!!” another simply gushed, as a third fan said: “Liam is officially my hero!”
However, it seemed like the celebrations may have been a little premature, as Meena was missing from the barn when Liam rushed back in to exact his revenge – and picked up a rock, eager to clobber Liam with it.
Thankfully, the police turned up before she could do any serious damage, and Meena crept off into the trees.
Later, a figure dressed in Meena’s clothes collided with vicar Charles’ car – but, upon closer inspection it was revealed to be a lifeless Manpreet, leaving Charles screaming for his beloved.
Meena, meanwhile, had been picked up by a hitchhiker and was using Manpreet’s name to evade authorities.
The other villagers soon began to put the pieces together, with Dawn, Billy, Charles and Noah all chiming in with their pieces of clues.
And Vinny soon informed his mum Mandy what had happened.
Meena’s storyline has been so dark that it even attracted numerous Ofcom complaints as she held her sister hostage and kept her drugged.
The show received more than 150 complaints as Meena went to extreme lengths to keep her sister quiet about her murderous past, cheerily ticking off the days she had left to live on a puppy calendar.
But it looks as though fans won’t have seen the last of Meena, as it has been confirmed by Emmerdale bosses that she could be around for “a few months”.
Speaking to The Mirror, Emmerdale’s executive producer Jane Hudson and producer Laura Shaw told press: “I think it’s fair to say that judgement day for Meena is coming. But whether she’ll get away with murder you’re going to have to wait and find out.
“There are still some more twists and turns to be had in this story. Some that you probably won’t see coming but I think we can all agree that Meena can pretty much do anything.”
They added: “But yes, Meena’s judgement day is coming. It won’t play out quite as you expect, there will be a lasting effect on a lot of the villagers but I think within the next few months, Meena will get what’s coming with her.”
Some fans are even predicting Meena could return to the soap for its 50th anniversary later this year.
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV.
