Emmerdale's Marlon star devastated as he says goodbye to ITV co-star after 19 years

Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has been left “sad to hear” about the retirement of an iconic ITV co-star.

The star, who has played Marlon Dingle since 1996, paid a sweet tribute to his pal on Twitter after he called a wrap on filming for good.

Duncan Wood, star of ITV News’ Calendar, has made the decision to leave the programme after nearly two decades – and has been part of ITV for an incredible 32 years.

Taking to Twitter, Duncan announced: “It’s a wrap! Tough decision but one I’ve thought long and hard about. Thank you #ITV for 32 rollercoaster years of live telly and to the amazing team @itvcalendar I shall miss you greatly!”

Mark was one of the first to hop into the replies section as he posted: “Oh Duncan!!! You’re a legend. I’m sad to hear this, but I’m very glad to have known you all these years and I’ll miss bumping into you round the building.

“You’ve always been so kind and supportive as well as being outstanding at your job. Good luck in everything, fella x.”

Duncan then told Mark, whose character Marlon is entrenched in a devastating stroke storyline: “Thanks so much Mark, it’s great to have worked alongside you and the Emmerdale gang, the best in the business. Hopefully catch up soon x.”

Plenty more of Duncan’s ITV co-stars chimed in with their own tributes, with regional ITV News presenter Nick Smith penning: “Sorry to see you go fella, and I know those across Yorkshire, Lincs and beyond will miss you dearly.

“Hope [you] get some well deserved rest and best of luck with whatever comes next!”

While Greg Scott added: “No Duncs! Another older – sorry – senior television [star] bows out when still having so much to offer. Will you be going elsewhere? Or taking up crocheting… in a rocking chair.”

Duncan joked back: “I’m entering the world tiddlywinks championship next year!”

He opened up about a ‘traumatising’ incident on a train

It comes after Emmerdale star Mark said he “hates himself” after an incredibly awkward blunder while taking the train.

He explained: “Happily reading on the train listening to soft ambient music on my headphones. Very soft.

“‘How subtle and comforting’, I thought, until someone tapped me on the shoulder and politely mentioned that my headphones were off and everyone was being subjected to Brian Eno. I hate myself.”

The star added that the entire incident was “weirdly traumatising”.

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV.
