Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie dies as band hail her 'talented beyond measure'

Legendary Fleetwood Mac singer Christine McVie has died at the age of 79 – with the bandmates describing her as ‘truly one-of-a-kind’.

The songwriter was a co-lead vocalist and keyboardist in the popular British-American rock band, which was originally formed in London in 1967.

In a Facebook post, Christine’s family penned: “It is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine’s death.

“She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family.”

On Wednesday (November 30) a statement from Fleetwood Mac was also issued on Christine’s Twitter page which confirmed the sad news of her passing.

The statement read: “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie.

“She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure.

“She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.”

The statement continued: “We are so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and thankful for the amazing memories we have.

“She will be so very missed.”

Christine joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 an went on to sell milions of records worldwide.

She also went on to release three solo albums.

Her lyrics were known to be poignant and focused on love and relationships from her perspective.

In 1998, Christine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a Fleetwood Mac member, and received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

But in the same year, Christine decided it was time to leave the band after almost 30 years and embarked on semiretirement for nearly 15 years.

But after her 15 years hiatus, the musician released a solo album in 2004 and in September 2013, she appeared on stage with Fleetwood Mac at London’s O2 Arena.

A year later she decided to re-join the band prior to their On with the Show tour.

Since the news of her death, fans have flocked to social media to share their condolences.

One person wrote: “No!!! Oh man. You will be so missed, Christine. What a legend.”

Meanwhile another shared: “Rest in Peace. I was just enjoying some of your most amazing songs over the Thanksgiving holiday. You will be missed, but your legacy will live on through your music.”
